Top Gun Friday Penguins (Read 13 times)

Penguin Power!

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

    Penguin Power!

Last night I fell asleep watching Top Gun, so tonight I know I'll be finishing it :-)  Tom Cruise was in pretty good shape back in the day.

Run/Swim/Run planned for today, hopefully before the "heavy rain" that's coming this afternoon.

      Singer who runs a smidge

Val Kilmer looked pretty good too!!  I slept terribly last night, mostly due to coughing and I think being jacked up on prednisone.  So now of course I have that tired/wired feeling going on.  Anyway, my folks will be in town this weekend, so that will be all kinds of nice.  My mom is having back issues, and her PT lady apparently recommended that they get a hot tub.  Woo-hoo!!  Ok, not like we'll often drive six hours to soak in their hot tub.  But we'll enjoy it when we're there!

Jill -- enjoy your R/S/R and your movie night!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

I would love to have a hot tub, but wouldn't love to have to maintain it!  So having it a family member's house, even 6 hours away, sounds nice! Smile

Jill, hope you get out before the rain.

DD and I are going to a Bernie rally today, then hopefully getting back in time for me to run in the pool for the first time.

Morning!  I swear I posted earlier, sheesh.  I have an RD, yay.  So, martinis after work.

Hope, sorry about the sleep and the coughing.

Jill, I have watched Top Gun TOO MANY STUPID TIMES!  One of my husband's favorite movies.

            Z, enjoy the rally!

            Return To Racing

SRD.  First one in 66 days, but we will get a walk in since that is all DW can do with ITBS Sad

              Have a Good Friday !!!

Jill - I hope you managed a dry run. Enjoy the rest of the movie.

HopesMom - enjoy the visit with your folks.  Are you fixing a big Easter dinner?

Z - I hope your pool run worked out.

D - enjoy your Friday martini.

Jerry - have you been running alone, or is your wife running through the ITBS?  Hope you had a good walk.  Any snow up there with this last storm?

AFM:  A better run today, though the wind is still fierce (18 mph) making breathing hard.  I did a 5 mile route that has more downhill than up, so it felt easier.

Jerry, sorry to hear about the wife's ITBS. Sad

Thankfully, no, and we didn't let Mom bring up a ton of food either.  I think we'll eat out most of the weekend, and DH has a chicken pot pie in the freezer we can eat as well.  I'm looking for low stress this weekend!!

                    Return To Racing

Thanks, Zel.  She's pretty upset about  it as it is her first injury and the PT is painful.  Our walk ended up with a half mile run to get the car.  I think we were walking too fast.

No snow here Ginny.  Mostly, I have been running on the track while DW walks.  I do run alone sometimes and with a weekend running group.

                          Barking Mad To Run

Yesterday was Thursday Hill Day!  After work, I picked up my packet for my 5K on Saturday and then I went and ran the neighborhood around the running store where packet pickup was.  GIANT hills.  I started out to do 3 miles but, like a curious doggie, I saw roads I hadn't been down before and had to go explore.  Ended up with 4 miles instead of 3 and some damn big hills too. It's all good.  Today I had the day off for a physical exam.  Don't know how the bloodwork will come back, but my BP was 104/72 and my resting heart rate was 52.  The nurse taking my vitals said "You must be a runner."  lol.
