    Radium was for a short period thought to have all kinds of health benefits.  It was even an ingredient in some toothpastes.  Sad story especially for many of those involved in making these products, who were exposed to quite large doses of radiation.

    Not to mention the fluoroscopes that were routinely used to xray people's feet to fit them for shoes. That would give a whole new sense of adventure to that trip to the LRS....
