Is it just me? Re: carrots (Read 349 times)

Jess runs for bacon

I swear every time I eat raw baby carrots, whether as a snack or with a meal, they just make me hungrier. I had some with lunch today, and I got hungry again at 3:30, so I finished them off, and now it is 4:30 and I want to eat my face off.

    Am I the only one???

Maybe you should eat adult carrots.  Clown

Maybe combine them with something with some fat and/or protein - a dip made with Greek yogurt, hummus or some string cheese. By themselves, carrots are actually fairly high carb.

20,000 miles behind me, the world still to see.

You're not alone - apples and carrots both make me hungrier. Smile

+1. The fat and protein will tide you over better. Fat is actually good in moderation, especially if it is the "good fat" (mono-unsaturated fatty acids)

I can do fat, lol. I'll add some PB next time. I am trying to get more veggies in my diet.

Apples make me hungrier as well.  I don't know about carrots...I don't eat that many of them unless they are cooked.  If I'm eating cooked carrots, there's a good chance I'm eating them with something super bad for me - like pot roast.

I try to combine fruits and veggies with protein too. Carrots and hummus, apple and peanut butter, banana and yogurt, orange and pistachios, that sort of thing. I made roasted red pepper hummus over the weekend - it's AMAZING with carrots. Nomnomnom.

                        I hate carrots!

My mom is a very picky eater, putting most toddlers to shame!

The only veggies she will eat are potatoes and carrots, so consequently us three kids of hers only got to eat those veggies in the house growing up.

I went to school and it was like.....hello....what the heck is this yummy stuff??!!

Peas, corn, broccoli, green beans, SALAD!!!! Man, I love them all! Carrots and potatoes, not so much. Although potatoes are fine as chips, tater tots, or French fries. But she kindof ruined just mashed or baked potatoes for me. When you have them or carrots day in & day out for years, that sortof happens!

I would have to say that it might not be the carrots so much as either the lack of fiber consumed with them or that you aren't eating as many calorie wise as you think you are. But then they are one of the higher sugar content veggies, which means quick up and then quicker down.

If I don't include protein with my snack, and something to drink, I might as well eat a meal.  Otherwise, I'll still be hungry.

I'm baaad. I eat my raw carrots with a sour cream dip. Now apples go great with cheese, anything from Brie to a sharp cheddar.

Glad I'm not the only one! Although I never have an issue with apples. But generally those get scarfed with some form of peanut butter.

NBT, that's interesting. I wish I had your dedication to veggies. I don't dislike them, I just never eat them.

April, I've made roasted red pepper hummus before. It's yumyum. I prefer it with pita bread though Smile

wcrunner, I can't stand sour cream, but I'll settle for ranch dressing.

Well, carrots do contain more sugar than many veggies. It's a fact that insulin spikes will induce hunger in people.
