Although I have stayed at some of the nice ones, it's not biggie.  We are only in the room to sleep and so long as there is a bed and a bathroom, we will be fine.

And I am talking about $250/night vs $400.  Damn I am not paying $400 for the Aria or for the Paris this year.  WTF.

Yeah that was the reason I stayed at the Orleans the last time I was there. It's off-strip but I didn't care. It's newer and el cheapo...relatively speaking that is.

Ballys is kinda old. Hopefully if it has been remodeled, they did a better job than the Flamingo (in the same group). MGM got rid of the lions and are now putting a bar where their habitat used to be.

The casinos didn't seem too terrible smoke wise, I don't think anyone was smoking when I was sitting at the roulette tables. And I hear you about walking forever to get to your room. We had to switch rooms Saturday night. Really fun trying to navigate through the casino at 10pm with suitcases.

MGM has gone through several changes through the years. They had a theme park out back at one time FFS.

8 for me. What a miserable run.  It wasn't supposed to start raining until 6:30 but of course less than a mile in it started. Super windy. I was freezing.

Yeah that's no fun. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I thought the rain had missed us, but it started halfway through my interval workout (8 x 400m) and was coming down hard by the end. That and my legs not wanting to move as fast as I wanted them to were enough to call it enough at 8 instead of the planned 12 (400s, not miles).

Darn never ending meeting this morning and another one at 1:00. No time to run at lunch. And with the rain and wind tonight, guess this is a RD.

Been through Vegas once, during the day. Stopped for about two hours there because, well, it's Vegas. Spent some time in two casinos and left. It was pretty boring. I don't like casinos in general, and didn't see anything special about the casinos in Vegas,

I don't like casinos either. I was at the one in Montreal once, and I thought it was actually pretty depressing. But then, Montreal ain't Vegas... Not into Disney for adults type hotels either. But the atmosphere in that city must be something special, like almost surreal, maybe? And the landscape must be almost alien like to us. That's how I imagine it.

I like Las Vegas, some people don't. You have to experience it for yourself and draw your own conclusions, no different than anything else in this world.

I am not a gambler by the way. I go there for the world class restaurants, the shows, and the sights and sounds.

Yes, I can understand the appeal of that. That's probably something I'd enjoy doing with my SIL, as a girls weekend. She loves Vegas and she also doesn't gamble. I'm not into shows like she is, but I love eating out and watch weird people. And I bet there are a lot of weird people in Vegas.

There are hundreds of things to do that don't involve gambling. You just have to plan ahead for it, and I do exactly that.

Probably, but then it's something I don't mind missing if you're referring to the Strip. There are some nice races in the area as well as several state parks, Lake Mead, and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area which are all worth seeing.

Yes,  exploring the area outside of Vegas is what would probably interest m the most. I've never seen the Grand Canyon and there must be great hiking opportunities in those state parks. But there must be snakes as well. I'm not fond of snakes...

Having gone for the first time recently, I didn't like Vegas much.  It is very *fake*, very surreal.  My hotel room was reallly nice (and quite inexpensive).  I will go back and be able to enjoy myself, but it will mainly be to play poker more.  There are casinos to play in around here and in Niagara Falls CA, but it's VEGAS. Poker isn't gambling, it's a game of skill, and you play your opponents, not the always-wins-in-the-long-run-House.  The more people that don't understand that, and THINK that they are gambling at the poker table, the better.  Smile
