It’s annoying when you’re on the receiving end of a sternly worded letter. It’s even more annoying when someone is doing stupid shit and all they get is a sternly worded letter.
It also takes for freaking ever for my county's code enforcement to actually enforce the code. First they have to go out and look, then notify the homeowner and give them tons of time to fix the issue. I think it was a good 6-8 weeks from when I first submitted a complaint for a giant bush on a corner of a traffic circle to be removed. I don;t even bother with them for snow removal. By the time they come look, it will melt.
I’d rather live in an HOA than a non-HOA where you are screwed and your neighbors fuck something up, are pigs or build an extension too close to you etc. Or keep trump flags forever.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

But whatever you do, avoid the HOA meetings. I have been to one in my life, and OMFG never again.

I saw pigs and was thinking animals. My county now had a chicken caucus, I guess to try to change the laws about owning roosters not on farms.
