Return To Racing

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Morning.  I have 12 miles at some point and Pilates.

Jerry, from what I am seeing, it will be another hot Chicago for me.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Fall weather is creeping in! I woke up before my alarm and killed my MLR today, but then I spent an hour in traffic and had to teach my first class on no breakfast and no coffee. Prep period now and I have eaten and my brain is functioning again so it's all good. My kids have their first cross country meet today! Super excited to see the whole thing in action, I never ran in high school so it's all totally new to me.

Morning, Penguins!!  SRD for me today, chorus rehearsal tonight!!  Loving the cooler weather ... at least it's not 90 outside!!  Nothing else new for me, which is not a bad thing!

              Jerryb -- enjoy your SRD!!

              PAD -- woo-hoo for your 5 done!!

Docket -- have fun with your pointed 12 and Pilates!!

Lauren -- Traffic sucks, and breakfast is good!!  Congrats on your killed MLR!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Jerry - enjoy your rest day.

Damaris - how hot is it supposed to be for the race? Good luck with your MLR.

Pad - nice job on the early miles.

Lauren - do you get to run with the kids?  Have fun at the meet.

HM - have fun at rehearsal tonight. Send some of that cooler weather our way!

AFM: another hot day (85) with no breeze at all to cool things off, so I'll probably do 5-6 on the TM later.

Fixing to go pick up Thai food for lunch.  DH made me two sandwiches this morning, but Dusty consumed them while his back was turned!!

                      We are now homeowners :-)

We have so much painting to do...

In running news, I ran 6.8 miles yesterday.  I might take a short running break from packing in a bit.

                      Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

Ginny - I run with 'em at practice sometimes, at the meets I get to wear jeans and stand around looking important, lol.

Meet was super fun! Everyone did great. The new kids who walk a lot in practice seem like they actually ran most of the race today, and our top two killed it - they'll be pushing each other to get faster all season, I think. Progress!
