The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
Merry Christmas everyone. Hope everyone got the running gear they wanted. I've got a Garmin 235 on back order.
Hit the elliptical already this morning. Might go for a bike ride later, supposed to be 70.
Return To Racing
Good morning and Merry Christmas.
Proudly wearing my new HalfFanatic shirt around the house. Now I just need to find a race.
Morning, PAD! Sounds like lovely weather! It's 36 and raining here.
I woke up early when my work alarm went off, but remembered that we had forgotten to put out the robot chocolates that we made for DH. So those are out now, and I get a little time to chill out before we open presents here, then go to DH's parents' house for the day. Hope that everybody is have a great day with family and friends!
Morning! I have 6 miles tonight.
Just woke up which was nice too.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Morning everyone! Today is a running rest day for me. Breakfast and presents are done, so it's time to go for a walk. Ben was sick in the night, so my hope of doing a hike before starting to cook dinner is probably not going to happen. We'll see how he does on the short walk through the neighborhood. Rain is forecast for the next three days, but intermittent.
PAD - love the picture. Good work getting the elliptical run in early.
Jerry - seems to me you've found a lot of races. Of course, none are until spring, but you can wear your shirt at the track and show it off there. Or go spend a week or two someplace sunny - Arizona in February is nice and there's a HM associated with Lost Dutchman ;-)
Melanie - have fun at the in-laws. Did you bake anything fancy this year?
Damaris - nice to be able to catch up on sleep a little. Enjoy your six later.
Hope Ben starts feeling better soon, Ginny.
Barking Mad To Run
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate Christmas. Hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable holiday.
I don't usually run on Fridays but the weather here in San Antonio is so nice - 72 degrees, low humidity, a bit cloudy and overcast - that I just had to get out and enjoy it before our 'cold front' and rainy weather starts getting here tomorrow. So I went down to the San Antonio Riverwalk and got in 4.2 miles. I thought the Riverwalk on Christmas Day would be nice and peaceful - and it was until I got to the "downtown' part of the Riverwalk where all the restaurants, shoppes, hotels, etc., are located. It was crazy town on that part! Probably didn't help, either, that I started my run/walk at noon, lol. I had to walk a bit more through that part of my route, but it was all good - there were lots of Air Force trainees recently graduated from Basic Training and it was fun chatting with them about their upcoming assignments, tech schools, etc, and recalling my own Air Force days. All in all, a very enjoyable outing!

Merry Christmas Penguins!
I hope everyone had a nice day. Mine was very lazy. I thought I might go for a run but it didn't happen. At one point I even said, "Well, I need to go for my run" and my son said, "You just had french toast and a bloody mary!" He was right of course and I didn't go.
