    Congrats!

My husband was out there too (and I was supposed to be until I broke my ankle two weeks ago).  The overpasses killed him too, and he said that it was really hot up there by the lake.  His fade was nearly identical to yours in terms of where in the race it happened, so don't beat yourself up - it was tough out there!

I hobbled out to mile 9 to watch for him and probably left just a few minutes before you would have passed me, since he even started in the same corral as you.  He was still all smiles then, but the race photos from the latter miles tell a different story, lol.

    My wildly inconsistent PRs:

    5k: 24:36 (10/20/12)

    10k: 52:01 (4/28/12)

    HM: 1:50:09 (10/27/12)

    Marathon: 4:19:11 (10/2/2011)

What a great race!  I can't believe that you're one bit disappointed by anything in this race.   Wow@ starting to run only 13 months ago.  Your progress has been awesome!  How you stopped and encouraged that girl at mile 22 speaks volumes about you--- that really is a nice story.  Congratulations for such a great marathon debut!

Thanks so much! I had someone pay the same kindness to me during a tough HM and it made all the difference for me. I am glad I had the chance to pay it forward.

How cool is that?!? Yeah, those overpasses were tough, particularly where they were positioned. And yes, it got really hot by the lake...stupid Louisiana winter :P. Tell your Dh I said congrats! And I hope your ankle heals quickly!

Did you go for a post race Hurricane?

People bent over and vomiting in New Orleans...how typical.

Nooo....I also passed on the aid station that was giving out beer at mile 21. I'm pretty sure that contributed to at least some of the puking :P.  I did indulge in a calzone that was bigger than my head.

I'm glad you had a good first experience with the marathon, Misty! Did you happen to try some beignets post-race?

Misty - Congrats on your debut!!  You did PINKTACULAR!!   I love that you took the time to encourage someone who was struggling even when you weren't feeling great yourself - that shows what a beautiful person you are!!   You look PINK-mazing in your pic!!  No.  Really!   You look all put together and like you were out for a tourist-y stroll while on vacation, but you had just ROCKED a freaking marathon!!!  Way to go, Misty!!   Huge, HUGE congrats to you!!

But The Smile That I Sent Out Returned With You.

Now THAT was a good race report, congrats to you, and in 13 months! Amazing

Thanks for sharing Misty.  You are an awesome runner, and I'm glad to be able to watch your progress.  A marathon is a big milestone, and you ran one very well.  Sub 4:20 is nothing to scoff at.  I have no doubt that you will improve on that time, but more importantly you will continue to develop and progress as a runner in general.  Hats off to you friend.

((Misty)). No wait for the hug and no space between the hug. I’ve missed you around here. Big grin

Congrats on finishing your first marathon. You did an awesome job toughing it out. It is much more difficult to tough it out like you did than to run when everything is going your way. Overpasses are tricky because they typically don't show up on elevation charts. I think they use the ground measurements in the elevation charts. I had one race that was supposed to be flat. The course was an out and back running over a bridge.

I am sure the weather was probably hotter and more humid that you have been training. If you were not doing those 70 MPW, then you probably really would have been dying. I am glad you didn’t give up. You look great after the finish. Enjoy your bling.

                      Personal Bests:

                      800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)

                        Awesome performance!

My one & only marathon (so far!) was a pretty similar story. One of the other runners told me during the race that it is typically 3 races: 0-16, 16-20, and 20-26.2. Which is just about how it broke down (no pun intended) for me, and looks like about the same for you. (Although my breakdown in the final portion was even more pronounced.) You are totally right to feel happy about it, you finished, and in a very nice time. And as rough as 20-26.2 were, I know you passed an awful lot of walkers (and pukers). I found the death march portion to be a great opportunity to think about what to do differently next time....

You look totally fresh as a daisy in your post-race photo, like you're just going out to start a run. But I loved your photo in the other thread, that's how you remember how you really felt!
