Which Garmin to choose? (Read 365 times)

I have the 405, with the touch bezel. Does all it's supposed to do.

That said, the touch bezel can be annoying sometimes. If I leave it unlocked, a long sleeve/arm warmer/glove can set it off. So can rain, evidently. Now normally, I could just lock the bezel and then the problem is solved. But I often run on dark streets, and it's nice to be able to toggle the light to see how I'm doing -- and you obviously can't if the bezel is locked. Other than that minor annoyance, it works like a charm. Not super bulky, in comparison to other Garmin watches. Battery is normally good for 4-5 runs of an hour or more before it needs a charge.

Oh, and for whatever reason it hates my apartment complex. When I'm starting from home, it takes a lifetime to acquire the satellites. And it's not like I live in a high-rise complex or a forest or anything. Lots of open sky, yet it takes forever to lock on from home. Nowhere else does it have this issue. Weird!

Word of caution about the 610 (though I love mine):

The pin that attaches the watch face to the strap started coming out on mine about 3 months after I got it.  I am sure I could send it back but I figured I would just crazy glue it in place so it didn't keep falling out (though I keep forgetting to do this).  The first time this happened it fell right off my wrist onto the road.  I have heard this happening for other people-- if you google 'garmin 610 strap' you will get a number of similar complaints.  I still love mine and all the features, and if I had to make the choice again I would make the same one.  It's just a little disappointing for a piece of equipment that's so expensive.

You should call them. They changed the pin design and it no longer does that. You'll get replacements for free and instructions on how to change them out(well, other than just running with it!)

      Good luck!

And the look of the thing is really underrated.  I own about a dozen or so watches and for what it is,  it's a fine looking piece in its own right.

So I'm looking into getting the Garmin 210, but I have a really small wrist. Does anyone know about the sizing of this thing?

My wrist is puny and the 210 doesn't look ridiculous on me. That's one of the reasons why I like it.

I bought the 405CX just as it was coming out.  I hated it.  I'd get SO mad at it, trying to get it to do what I wanted and display what I wanted, that I'd be mad for half my run, until I said "screw it" and ignored it.  I don't think I used it more than a half dozen times.

This spring, my husband started using it and I eventually decided I wanted a Garmin, just not nearly as much of one.  I settled on the 210 and I love it.
