    Hey all,

I currently use the GPS on my phone to keep track of my runs.  I was planning on picking up a Garmin Forerunner 10 because of the price point and I don't really care too much about fancy data.  But I was looking at the specs yesterday and saw that the battery life is only 5 hours so, because I'm slow, this may not be good enough for marathons, especially if the battery life ends up being any lower this is reality.

So I'm trying to figure out which watch to get now.  I'm thinking about either 910xt or 310xt.  Like I said I don't really care that much about fancy data, I am more concerned with getting a watch that will work really well in regards to its basic functions and that has a good battery life.  The 910 looks really appealing but I'm not sure if it is worth the extra $200.

Do any of you all have any input or any further suggestions?

I have both the 310XT and the 910XT, and I have to say -- if you're just looking for the basics, you're barking up the wrong tree.  Those are really mostly geared toward triathletes.  If you're looking for simplicity, you're probably better off going with one of the running models, like the 410.

Bluerun-  thanks for the input! My only concern with the 410 is the battery life... do the watches actually last how long they say they last, or are they like laptops where the battery actually last at about 1/2 of the advertised length?  If it actually gets up to 8 hours, then it looks like it will be perfect.

Well, I've never actually let mine run out of juice completely, so I can't say whether the battery on the 310XT and 910XT actually does last twenty hours!  But as far as I know, the 610 does actually last eight hours on a full charge (at least, when it's new... it will probably weaken over time).

Great, I think I'll get the 410 then.  Thanks for your help!

I have the 610 and I get stated battery life of 8 hours approximate, or there they said 6 and I get about 8? Anyways, mine lasts forever. I

wouldn't use it for an ultra or a bike century ride without backup(bike computer). But I doubt I will ever run that far and run out.

You can always try it and return it or resell it if it doesn't work for you.

The 310 or 910 would be way more watch than you need.

Have you checked into the Timex run trainer? That gets stupid crazy battery life!

If battery life is the concern, know that the 310 and 910 get about 17-20 hours, and none of the other models come close.  For an ultrarunner, this is a big deal.  If you aren't, it may not be.  Dunno.

I will say that battery life and waterproof-ness are the ONLY reasons I bought my 310.  It and the 910 have a bunch of whizbang features I don't use.  I care about maybe 10% of what the 310 does.  But the ridiculously low battery lives (in comparison) of all the other models made them no go's for me.

For what it's worth, I have a 310 that is about 3-4 years old and it lasted me through a 12 hour bike ride no problem.

I like the 210. It is very simple and easy to use and it does what I want.

I'd like to hear a little more from folks with 210's.  it seems like less people have them and I'm not sure why.  It's the one I was considering...mostly because it comes in colors that I want and it does the "current" (I know it's not really that) pace.

I love my 210.  I agree that it is easy to use and it defaults to current lap/mile pace.  My only complaint is that it takes some figiting to get the clip alligned correctly when charging.

If you plan to travel overseas and take your Garmin to use for running make certain to get a model that is globally GPS.  Some of the newer models are just regional GPS systems.

I love my 210. No comment on the battery life (I'm a beginner and still coming back from shin splints, all it has to do right now is last for my 20-minute excursions), but it's super easy to use and I like the current pace feature - much more accurate than the Nike+ app I was using before. It also pairs with the bluetooth foot pod for either indoor running or to track cadence outside.

I haven't run my FR10 all the way down yet, but I used it for 3 hrs 45 mins and the battery meter was at half, so I'm guessing it would do better than 5 hours if I ran it all the way down.

I love my 410.  I get about 10 hours of battery life out of it - about the same thing I got from my 305.
