So what the hell is (Read 1027 times)

this miles game that I have heard about and something to do with guessing an individual person or person(s) race times.

What is the L&O?  What is the difference between the dailes and the explosion that is supposed to happen on Fridays.  I need to know the ways of the Others to see if we can co-exist?

Please sit down. I don't want you to hurt yourself when you faint.

There are two different running games. Each has many teams and a team thread for each.

Someone else will explain the rules.

I heard you guys prefer pictures to smilies. If so, I'm ready to be assimilated.

          Started C25K on 9/6/12. First 5K set for 1/13/13.

L & O is what was formerly known as Letters and Opinions on RWOL.  That forum was nuked due to too many people posting things that were, in the judgment of the powers that be, offensive etc.  The forum was revived as NRR (not running related) - similar to the Off the Beaten Path forum here, and now those folks have come over as they like the fact that the moderation here isn't so heavy handed.

Miles Game and 2012 in 2012 are team games.  For 2012, teams are put together based on predicted yearly mileage goals and then, in the case of 2012 in 2012, teams compete head to head every week.  Next week the finals start between two teams, best 2 out of 3 weeks.  To be honest, I'm not sure how the Miles Game works exactly.

I'm pretty sure L&O is like BO, but lower down on the body.

Blowups are when we take a random thread and some idiot forgets their internal ignore user button, gets offended for no good reason, and 300 posts come out of it.

L&O is the group of refugees from RWOL's NRR (Not Running Related) section.  They set up their own special group here.  You would fit right in.

Before NRR, there was a different forum called Letters and Opinions (L&O).  Same basic thing until they ticked off People with Power at Rodale who decided one day to nuke their happy place.  Which was dumb as hell because then they started mucking around elsewhere.  So they set up a new version of the same damn thing (now called NRR) just because.

                  Anyway, you'd love it.

                  As for this...

Um yeah.  Except that they themselves have started kicking people out.  (I don't know details)

Just don't look at them, the Others, as we have deemed them. when you see one, put a mark on your arm so that you know how many you saw before you turn around. Because once you turn around, you forget you saw them in the first place. I have heard they are everywhere but I am too afraid to look, so I don't. Or maybe I did. I just can't remember.

Not to get too confusing, but there is more than one miles game.  There is a miles game which you can find through the sticky up top, it takes members any time.  There is a 2012 in 2012 game, which runs for the year, is nearly over, and only takes new members at the very beginning of the new year (or the end of the old one, technically).  You do not have to run 2012 miles, you can have any goal you please.  Then there is a winter running game.  I'm not into that, because secretly I don't run.

L&O used to stand for Letters and Opinions.  They are known for harshing on noobs who post idiotic questions, getting banned, and secretly being really good runners.  Join in the fun, but bring your thick skin.  They're good people, for the most part.

Dailies is where you post whatever you're doing that day.  Running, biking, napping, whatever.  The Penguins thread is like a dailies thread for slow runners.

The Friday meltdown, which seems to be happening early this week, is where someone posts something that gets twisted somehow, and then all the carebears pull out their claws and fur starts flying.  It can be fun to watch, in a train-wreck sort of fashion.  There's no telling where or when or how it will pop up, but you'll know it when a seemingly innocent thread suddenly starts getting hundreds of views and replies.

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Actually, three, if you count the Winter running game. And soon there might be the Holiday game. Big grin

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Okay, the miles game, is a game where teams compete for the greatest weekly miles.  Its more friendly competition then anything, and to give encouragement and support to game members.  New people who want to join need to start logging their miles onto this website on "team available:  http://www.huenix.com/milesgame/postmiles.php

L&O was "letters and opinions" on RWOL, and as far as I could see it was where people with different points of view went to argue.  LOL, okay, I really didn't chat there, but their forum members were accused off all the spats that ever took place on RW, though I figured that probably wasn't really the case.  I think I seen some of their members move into the beginners forum and they just acted like everyone else.  ;-)  That's my take on things.

This explosion that happens on Friday is something I'm never involved in.  I think it's where cool, clever people talk about drinking and running, and I'm not sure.  I'm not that cool, sorry. I guess you'll have to find out for yourself.

Or when a guy is bored and sick and keeps posting history lessons.
