I have never raced (or trained) on trails. I always hear trail races have a somewhat different vibe than road races - a bit more laid back I guess. Did you feel anything like that?

Definitely true.  Maybe that vibe is part of why I don't like trail RACING much... I love running on trails, but I guess I'm an inherently competitive person, and that kind of falls away with trails.  (Partly by necessity.  See: I don't want to fall and break something.)
