FWIW, I didn't consider NYCM that hilly. And I run in flat and didn't train for hills at all.
Agree-- I didn't train for hills the time I did NYC, though I was running my long runs at least partially in Central Park (which I don't consider that hilly, either).
There was this girl once named Shannon Hill, whose family was a complete whack job so we avoided them Hills like...wait, who?
Training or running easy on hills is not a deal breaker for me, my race preference however are courses that are as flat as possible.

And plus you conquered Mr. Oski's hill workout! I have yet to try that one whole, only parts.
And I managed a 9:06 avg pace on that beast in trying to keep up. I should run with him more.
