Windy Wednesday Penguins (Read 12 times)

Penguin Power!

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

      Hi Pens!

I haven't been running, but I have been doing a lot of walking. With pregnancy my sciatica has flared up (I have a herniated disc in my spine, so this is a recurrent thing). I think that I actually could run through it if I tried, but I'm tired and sore and don't want to risk pissing it off to the point that I can't walk, so it is all walking for now. Hopefully come September I'll be running again. I'm tempted to do some jog/walk intervals on the treadmill, but my dog is enjoying all of the long outdoor walks. Maybe I'll do that if there's too much snow for a nice long walk.

How's everyone else been doing? I've been sad that I haven't been running, so I've mostly stayed away from the forums lately.

Morning!  I ran 5 with hubby last night.  I have 8 tonight and will do them so long as the knee is doing OK after 3 days of back to back running.

Jill, sorry about the sciatica.  Keep walking at least! When are you due?

Jill - It's great to hear from you, but I'm sorry your back is giving you problems.  Enjoy your walks.

D - I hope your knee continues to behave so you can do your miles this evening.

I have 8 today too. I thought I had managed to sweat out my cold, but yesterday it reappeared. Hot tea and orange juice did nothing to make it go away, so I'll try chicken soup at lunch. It's really windy here, so I may do the miles on the TM or I'll head toward town so I can have the wind at my back. The last thing I need is more crap in my lungs.

          Singer who runs a smidge

Oh my goodness, the crazy going on today!!  Instrument issues, but different than last time.  Still pulling stuff together for the awards at contest, quartet rehearsal tonight.  DH got my car serviced yesterday, and there was a mouse nest in the cabin air filter, so the final total was $280.  We got our eyes checked, and while neither of us had much change in our prescriptions, DH has been fussing about his bifocals not working for him for the past year, so new lenses and frames for him.  Almost $800.  I need to pull together all the info for my annual review this week, I have grant proposal stuff to work out, and I am generally running around like a crazy person.  Trying to find time to set it all down for a bit and breathe.

Jill, hope your back feels better!!  I bet the walking helps, even if it doesn't always feel great.

Docket -- woo-hoo for your ongoing recovery!!

Ginny -- hope you feel better!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

              Barking Mad To Run

Monday night some people went through several cars in the neighborhood rummaging around in them looking for stuff I guess....mine included since I had a brain dump and forgot to lock it yesterday. I don't keep anything of value in the car anyway, so I did not lose anything except they took 12 capsules of Imodium I had in there and my eyeglasses that I use to drive with. Why in the world would they want my eyeglasses. I have no idea; good thing I have a spare pair.  They also took my shower shoes and a loofa that was stuck in the shoes.  Weird.  The police said they did not think it was professionals since they would have taken everything.   They suspect it was a bunch of young jerks doing some kind if initiation thing or scavenger hunt thing....still sucks, though.   Oh well, live and learn, cleaned out the garage to make room and for both mine and Gail's car and from now on we are both parking in the locked and alarmed garage.

The good news on Tuesday is that I had a really nice run/walk at Fort Sam Houston.   Did hills and felt great and ended up with 4.2 miles.

So what's the street value of Immodium these days?

Scotty that's terrible. I guess at least there wasn't too valuable of stuff in there.
