My God tonight was FREEEZING!!!! (Read 132 times)

I've ran in temps 20-25 degrees before, but tonight's 25 with a windchill of 16 was almost too much and it didn't help that half of my 5 mile run was along the river front  where the wind was just blowing at me. My eyes were dried up and burning by the time I was done. I almost debated on a treadmill, but I hate them so much Sad
How do others cope with this kind of weather, the wind and all? I think I might even have to get a second pair of gloves, a ski mask or whatever and freaking goggles/glasses to save my eyes. My area is being hit with an arctic blast and it looks like I'll be dealing with this kind of weather for the next 10 days.... it can be extremely discouraging Sleepy

If you hate the treadmill enough (like I do) you just get out, dress properly and eventually after

many many years (LOL) you will get used to it.

I just started another post and mentioned that our "feels" like temps will be -15F from tomorrow

through Sunday. Fun times in Canada!!

Sad thing, I was the only one out there tonight. Normally I will see other runners and some walkers, but I was the ONLY one. I hate the treadmill, so I think I am going to have to invest in clothing better equipped for this weather, especially something to cover my nose, mouth and a warmer jacket. I am really beginning to miss the 90 degrees and humidity of summer, at least then I could run in a pair of shorts, sports bra and shoes.............

We're expecting a cold week here, just when I was starting to enjoy running outside, may have to venture back in for a TM visit.

I think it got warm enough for that  one day in July last summer!

Indeed it was freezing. The temp was 32F when I returned from my run.

I just bought me a Sugio Midzero Balaclava (face mask) and a Salomon A Midlayer UW jacket, I think I will be ready for my next run this week. Running Warehouse is shipping it 2nd day air so  hopefully I will have them either Wednesday or Thursday.

                not bad for mile 25

I got used to running in cold after about a year. Now I much prefer running in 0F to a treadmill.  I wear snug tights, a long sleeve tech shirt, long sleeve tee over that, and a windbreaker over that.  Warm headband and gloves complete the ensemble.

You'll get used to it if you keep getting out there.

This morning, I ran my Monday 8 miler in -3 degree temps with a 20mph north wind & flurries. I wore a Sugoi Speedster 3 tech shirt/jacket thing with a Patagonia Nano Puff vest, Sugoi Sub Zero tights, North Face Windstopper Gloves, ZanHeadwear mask(LOVE!!!), and Smartwool socks. Seriously was toasty warm!

                      You bastard, that's shorts weather!

I strongly agree that the cold is much better than the dreadmill. But this week is truly a test. I ran yesterday in 18F/-1F windchill. But tomorrow at the time I run will be 2F/-16F windchill. I may just have to take that one indoors.

Big grin  It is -5 here right now headed to the teens below zero overnight. I'd love me a little 25 degrees right now. I know I've posted this pic before and I realize that 20-30 degrees is really cold for a lot of you but if you dress right and have a somewhat positive attitude it isn't all that bad.

Layers, tights, keep the head covered, wind proof outer jacket and I prefer mittens over gloves when it gets below 10. Seems to keep my hands warmer. And for the guys I recommend wind blocker briefs under the tights or running pants.

MTA:  I will say when it does get this cold it is a good excuse to do some speed work on the treadmill.

I bolded what I definitely need to remember. I can deal with my legs freezing even in my tights, but I cannot stand my eyes burning, I will have to avoid the river front.  This week will definitely be a test, I will have to force myself out the door.

This morning it was 14 degrees but with a windchill of 5 degrees, still felt better than last night due to no wind blowing and the sun shining. I miss running during daylight.
