Lance Armstrong interview on OWN at 9 pm EST.
Obviously there are many types of cheating. Is it ever justified?
Go.
Yes he cheated. No it's not justifiable. I understand why he cheated. I place no judgement on the man for what he did.

First man to walk on the moon.
Would you cheat if cheating meant $10 million and not cheating meant barely making a living? I would.
Short term goal: 17:59 5K
Mid term goal: 2:54:59 marathon
Long term goal: To say I've been a runner half my life. (I started running at age 45).
Agreed.
Should be a level playing field either way. It can't be called cheating if everyone dopes.
It's like saying you can't win Mr. Olympia without taking steroids. No. You can't. You have to take 'roids.
There are many people in the world that are faced with temptation and do not succumb. This can be in all types of circumstances. That attitude extends into personal relationships as well.
So with that, I ask "would you cheat on your spouse?" because someone who would cheat to win money is equally as flawed as someone who would choose to cheat for no gain at all financially.

No.
I don't want to win enough to cheat though. I want to best myself and how could I do that if I started taking something that made me artificially better? Then you are besting the dope, not yourself.
Plenty of people make an honest living and don't cheat to do it. Have some integrity for gots sakes!

I would disagree with this analogy. The goal in competitive sports is fame, being the best, and financial gain. Not so in marriage so the motivating factors are different...a different for different individuals. The concept of situational ethics comes in to play here. Some people would place the sanctity of monogamy as sacred but "anything for financial gain" a bit lower. Do you see what I mean?
Again, I feel what LA did was wrong...And I have been in the "dark world" of PEDs years ago. I KNOW why they do it...and I understand why.

Indeed you do. And they will do it...unto their death...Just ask, oh wait you can't, "Momo" Benaziza....Who collapsed and died shortly after taking the win.
No more marathons
Wow, just like Bernie Madoff. It's OK as long as you're not the one who gets hurt. Not a lesson I would want my kids to learn.

Lordy, I hope there are tapes.
He's a leaker!
I'm not saying it's morally right but I do know that if I was a professional athlete and couldn't be competitive without using PED's, I'd use them. The Bernie Madoff analogy is not apt as he committed criminal acts. Cheating in a sport is not a criminal offense.

The mindset of being able to justify wrong behavior is the same in both individuals is my point.
There is little difference.

I understand. We differ in our opinions on the matter, but I do understand where you're coming from.
So if I get this right, you admit it is wrong but you would do it anyway if that was the only way you would win.
I see little difference in that and any other form of cheating (be it marriage, taxes). By throwing in a caveat that it is "ok" because it isn't criminal is merely justification for an action.
Either you live by a moral code of some sort, or you don't. Doesn't have to be a religious one, but it can be.
