Fear is a Liar
The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!
PeepPeepPeep Penguins!
I actually live in the town where they make Peeps. Late December one year a co-worker asked what I was doing for New Years eve. I told him I was going downtown to watch the Peep drop. He says "what town do you live in?" I said "Bethlehem PA". He said "what's a Peep - that marshmallow thing?" I said "Yes." He replied "you Pennsylvania people are messed up".
Yesterday I ran 7 miles and today I just ran 5.
Will run for beer.
Gustav - Peeps are best served near-flaming between two graham crackers and a product of another fine PA town.
It was gorgeous yesterday - I was going to run 8... then I stretched it out to 10.75. I felt strong. The weather was freakin' great. My first time this year in shorts (44 deg F), no hat, and no gloves. SRD today. My DW has been having side pain which has been progressively worse over 3 weeks. Bad enough to stop her from running the last week. She had an ultrasound yesterday and it is "only" gall stones but they are bad enough the doc wanted to schedule surgery this weekend for her but no surgeon available. We are on watch - if the pain gets worse I take her to ER and they will call someone in. She's bummed about not being able to run right now. She'll be back at it within a couple of weeks though.
Have a great day!
Vance Will Run Blog
Good morning! Going to head out for 7 in a little bit.
Gustav- Mmm, peeps. Don't they have a whole Peep store out there?
Vance- Hope that DW stays comfortable this weekend and is able to get in for surgery soon.
Return To Racing
Good morning Melanie, Vance, and Gus. RD for us after yesterday's LR. I still had my tights and long sleeve mock and a sweatshirt on and was still comfortable. I did drop the gloves and headband though. Looks like the HM is going to be all shorts. Think I'll pass on the marshmallows.
Have a great weekend and Easter....

Good morning all!
My mom loves peeps when you open the package for a week, and let them get stale. Weird. Right?
Anyway, I'm getting ready to head out. The weather looks great. I might make this one 15-16 miles. We'll just have to see how I feel today. The week after a race for me is always kind of by ear. Good times.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Chasing the sub 20 5K.
Hey everyone. 16? 18? Yall are just awesome. Be glad when I get that far. Today was a very good day, you must read Jimmy's RR. You will smile!
I was gonna run a little more when I got home, but it was storming, and I'm ready to crash.
Lots of good runs today, by the sound of it.
Vance - I hope your wife is able to wait until a surgeon is available. We've had two gallbladder surgeries in the family in the past year. Not fun.
Gustav - I never have liked Peeps. Marshmallow never thrilled me, though I did like s'mores when I was a girl scout.
Jerry - I wore long sleeves yesterday, with shorts, and wished I had a t-shirt on.
Jimmy - glad your race went so well.
Mitch - so you made it in time. Yea!
AFM: Beautiful sunny day in the mid- 50s', so we went to the AT for a six mile hike. Still a little snow, which our GR loved, both to eat and to roll in. Lots and lots of people out enjoying the first day that has really felt like spring.
Look what I found after the race, Happy Easter!
Jack, I believe Jimmy will have some more pics, and video. Be on the lookout for his RR.
9am where I am. Just completed HM at just below 1:50 but need to wait for official.
