Calmer Tuesday Penguins (Read 12 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

No gig today, so I'm definitely enjoying the chillin!!  I do have a gig tomorrow and one on Thursday, so it's a short respite.  Since I hate being cold, I think I might try to explore a walking route between buildings after lunch.  My building connects with three others, though not always on the same floor.  I don't want to deal with the gym membership to get their track (plus a bunch of other stuff I won't use), so this seems like a reasonable coatless alternative.

Physical yesterday was easy peasy.  No problems popping up with my labs or other numbers, so woo-hoo!!

HopesMom - good news on the physical. It's always nice to get that done and to know that there's nothing to worry about.  And any walk is a good walk.  Can you take stairs in there too?

We may get snow or rain this afternoon, so I'm not sure when or how far I'll be running. I'd enjoy running in falling snow, except that going down icy hills is a hazard and there is a big hill at the end of my street. The Beer Runners meet tonight, but then I'd be running in the snow/rain in the dark - which really seems iffy.

If, as I suspect, the connections aren't on the same floor, there will have to be stair climbing.  The elevator in my building is absolutely the slowest I've ever been in!!  Riding from the first floor to the fourth can take several minutes.  That's not including waiting for the elevator to arrive, that's actual riding time.  Sheesh!!

I'm sorry you have snow already, Ginny, but I'm slightly jealous too.  Not much hope for a White Christmas here, although that's probably a good thing, since I'll head down to NC to spend the holiday with my folks.  And their hot tub.

Afternoon!  I didn't lift yesterday (switched Pilates around so I have more time today than yesterday), so 7 and weights.

Hope, good news on the physical.  Enjoy the chilling.

Ginny, enjoy the snow but not so much the ice.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

So my indoor walking route encompasses three buildings and four floors, and covers about 20 minutes, so that's all good.  At least it's indoors!!

I did spin yesterday and a couple this morning and planning on a couple more tonight. Easing back into it.

Am I the only one with a short memory. The plan was to run the Dallas Half, Bandera 25k trail race Jan 7, and then the Rocky Racoon 50k trail run on Feb 11.

The Dallas Half was harder than I expected, I didn't taper and ran an 18k race the week before, I was hurting and I decide there's no f'n way I could run a 50k. So I reworked my training plan took out all the long runs etc...

2 days later and I'm rethinking the 50k!

PAD - I take it you haven't paid for the races yet?  Yes, I do understand forgetting the pain and looking forward to the next race instead. When I'm not planning for a race, I think how nice it is to not have a schedule.  But then when I start training, I think how nice it is to have a schedule again. Can you wait to sign up until after the 25k?  See how your training goes up to that point?

HopesMom - that sounds like a good place to get some exercise.

D - I hope your 7 and weights went well.

Accuweather was wrong again. When I left home, it was supposed to start to rain/snow in 45 minutes. Instead, the clouds were mostly cleared and I was able to watch a lovely sunset.  I ended up with 5.7.

Yea that's what I've been doing. I'm registered for the 25 and will wait till after that to register for the 50.
