Marvelous Monday Penguins (Read 16 times)

PADRunner

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

RD for me today. Still have yard work though...

      Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  Did my PT exercises this morning after a 3 day layoff ... oops!    But I have another PT appt tomorrow morning, so I'm glad I got it done today!  My Boston cream pie this weekend came out ok, but not phenomenal.  I thought the cake part was a little tough -- the recipe called for all-purpose flour, but I'm wondering if it would've been better with cake flour.  Anyway, DH thinks it's amazing and is completely impressed with me, so it was worth it!

PAD -- glad you can take a break after All-Stars, good luck with the yard work!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Morning!  I have 9 miles with 4 at HMP later.  Half day at work for me, yay.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

          Return To Racing

I might squeeze in a short run after the health club.  DD, hubby and pit bull are staying with us while their bathroom is remodeled.

Got in 2.5 miles pushing the mower, haha. I'll run later this evening when it cools off.

                  Happy Monday Pens!

I swam 600 yards in the pool (a whopping 11 minutes of cardio - also wow am I slow compared to high school).  I actually finally took my measuring tape down to the pool to measure it.  I was curious as to how long it was because my perception of it is very warped.  The lifeguard was also curious and didn't know so we worked together to measure the pool =D

I will do some yoga later and if my back is feeling good I'll run in the evening once it is a bit less sunny.

                  Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

Five for me this morning.  Very nice day for a run, although the mosquitos lately seem to think I'm an ambling snack bar.

                    From the Internet.

                      Hi pens.

Rest day. Tomorrow might be a rest day too, I haven't decided yet. I have spent the last, like, 2 hours at work trying to figure out how the eff I'm going to come up with the rest of the cat surgery money. It's like a puzzle. Have a bunch of stuff (horse show clothing, fancy jeans that I've been hanging onto with the wishful-thinking idea that they'll actually fit me again someday) to take pictures of and try to sell, but of course I can't count on any of that until it's actually gone.

Was looking into emergency vet bill grants/relief funds, but we're way above the poverty line so not even close to qualifying for any of them - their budgets are probably stretched thin even without shmucks like me trying to request money. Maybe I should temporarily divorce husband and move out onto the streets :P I applied for one that had a really vague income-requirement description with my story in the note section just to see if I'd get any kind of response (graduating soon, student loans, husband's job up in the air, can contribute donations once we're on more solid financial ground) but got immediately rejected, shouldn't have wasted time typing it all out.

And your vet does not take a payment plan?  Also, did you negotiate a discount?  I always ask for and receive at least 5% from my vet.  The more you cry, the better.  Sorry.  I donated to your page and might donate later if you need.

Totally, completely appreciated <3 It's only been a few days, I'm just getting antsy since the uncertainty is killing me. MTA: and honestly, I'm blown away that I'm more than 10% of the way there already - when I checked in on my page yesterday I started crying all over again Smile

No payment plan from the vet, no one in the area will do one unfortunately. Good call on the discount, I'll ask about that - certainly worth trying for, given the amount I'll be spending with them. I'm also considering calling Tufts' vet school clinic to see if they'll do the surgery for less than the other area specialists, but I get the feeling reading around on the internet that they only do that for low income clients.

I found a service called iCare that does 0% interest loans, but the vet has to set it up through their office - their financial manager is gone for the day now but I'll call tomorrow morning and ask if that's something they'd be willing to look into setting up, or maybe they did look into it and there's something weird or fishy about it. The interest rates on my emergency-vet-cards are scary and I know I won't finish paying before the interest hits.

It'll all work out the way it's meant to work out. Just trying hard to make it work out ASAP!

                          Singer who runs a smidge

Vet schools will absolutely do the surgery for less than a regular vet surgeon.  That's why Hope's surgery was $3k and not $6k, even though we had to drive 3.5 hours to get there.  Basically they charge less because students will be watching the surgery, and they'll often do the prep work and follow-up care.

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

That's great to know! Looks like I will absolutely be calling them tomorrow morning then Smile
