Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Penguin Thursdailies! (Read 7 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Today is officially Roast Chestnuts Day!!  DH and I are members of a local produce co-op, and since DH makes deliveries for them, we basically get free fresh veggies and fruits, which is all kinds of lovely.  Otherwise, DH being a complete carnivore, we would never have fruits or veggies at all.  Case in point, the man sent me a slab of meatloaf for lunch.  He figures he puts carrots and celery in the meatloaf, so that counts as veggies!

Anyway, we're getting a box of produce today, and there will be chestnuts in there.  So I looked up how to roast them, and I'm going to give it a shot.  Either it'll be wonderful, or so much of a pain it won't be worth it.  We'll see ...

Morning!  The bed magnet won over a run outside in the 40s this morning, so 7 miles on the TM this afternoon after Pilates. We have a comedy show tonight (Bill Burr) so I can't run later.

HopesMom, nice!  Now I'm hungry, thanks!

So last night Dusty fussed almost continuously until about 2:00 AM (DH took him outside twice during this).  DH gave him some melatonin at 2, which is usually an anti-anxiety for dogs.  It calmed him down for a few hours, then he was panting and whining again around 5:15.  DH pulled the boards out of the bottom of his crate, thinking maybe he was having joint issues as he gets older and maybe the boards made his bed too hard.  Not that it helped.  So I've ordered some joint supplements and some calming chews, we'll see.  DH might put his Thundershirt on him before crating him tonight.

Dusty is getting older, probably 7 or so now?  And he's anxious about things he was never fussy about before.  Maybe this is just another manifestation, but we need to figure out some kind of solution pretty quickly!

I suggested leaving him out of the crate but still shut up in the bedroom.  Though I would have to put all my slippers and socks out of reach of Munchy-mouth ...

HM - Dusty sounds like he's sick or in pain. Maybe a UTI? For Ben at least, panting is usually a sign of stress, usually physical, though he gets incredibly wound up when the smoke alarm or Jim's cell phone chirps.

I haven't had chestnuts in years. In France we ate roasted chestnuts occasionally in winter and there was a sweet chestnut topping we would sometimes put on creme fraiche.  Yum.

D - I thought you loved temps in the 40s!  Have fun tonight.

AFM: Not much sleep last night, for no good reason. We had a light snow -- only about 1/4 inch so it should be melted off the roads completely by this afternoon. I hope to run 5 or so outside if the wind dies down a bit. 32 feels like 20 was chilly when we walked Ben.

I do!  But apparently, I love sleep more!  It is now too sunny and not 40s to run outside so I'll have to run at 4pm inside.

Yeah, I suggested a vet checkup as well, just to make sure nothing is going on ...
