Cyber Penguin Sunday (Read 29 times)

PADRunner

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

        Hi Pens...

PAD: Nice 10. Don't worry about the weather, it is out of your control. Just dress comfortably and trust your training.

As for me, I just finished my last 12 mile run and week 17 is in the books. LET'S DO THIS!!!

10 miler for us too. 30 for the week.  Nice to do a LR again.  Weather was perfect on the bike path.  Had to chase a herd of deer out of the way.

Congrats Mr and Mrs Docket Smile  !!!

All you penguins are so inspirational!

I got a Garmin!  Gonna try it out this afternoon and try and up my LR mileage today.  3 weeks until my next race.

                Good morning penguins!

PAD-- is that a Cyborg-penguin?  Whatever it is, it's so cute!  Good luck with the run today, and dress warm!

Jack-- Yay@ the last 12 mile run!  You're gonna rock the marathon next week.  I secretly think you'll win the whole darn thing, LOL!

                LRB-- Hey you!

Jerry-- glad you had good weather for your long run.  After all that cold you deserve it.

Stonefence-- you shouldn't have got that Garmin!  Now you're going to be addicted to it.  I know I have the hardest time making myself run if my Garmin didn't charge right or I dont' have it available.  Good luck with the LR today.

I decided to forgo my 3 mile run today, and am now feeling a bit restless.  My friend's mother passed away this morning, and she becomes the guardian of her 13 year old brother.  I feel so bad for both of them, and really the whole family.

                  Hugs for your friend.

Which one?   Careful not to trip watching it.

Cherie, sorry to hear about your friends mother. How old is your friend? Will it be a problem of him/her taking guardianship?

PAD, You're doing 10 mile LR today and then racing a half next week? Or just running the half? Don't sweat it on the weather, everyone else will have the same disadvantage.

Jack, good luck next weekend! Wasn't Cherie doing this one with you?

                        Jerry, nice week.

                        LRB, sup?

Stone, you will like the Garmin, but it's like Cherie said after a while, it almost becomes a crutch.

Dan, I'm eager to see the speed on the 3k. What type of plan are you using?

Today is a RD for me. I had my highest weekly mileage ever last week at 51.7, and it would have blown out my monthly PR except for that I took a full week off around the 13th. Still ended the month at 145 though.

Question for some of the marathon peeps, Damaris, Jack, Bin, Cherie, Awood; I really want/need to hear some opinions about me choosing a pace. Should I just post a separate thread here, or is there a better place? Maybe out on the main board?

Cherie, so sorry for your friend. And for the kiddo.

Wow on all the long runs today. No running for me, but I did 50 squats plus a few different kinds of leg lifts, a plank, and some toe raises for a little strength training while watching football. This is an amazing Vikings game!!!!

                            From the Internet.

Afternoon all! 5.25 miles this morning in 36F/light rain. It was actually pretty nice, short sleeves with a windbreaker and baseball cap kept me dry enough not to be miserable. Taking a rest day yesterday was a good move, the calf that was complaining earlier in the week is back to normal now.

This morning's run concludes five whole weeks in a row of very consistent mileage with no injuries/extended time off! Pretty happy, will keep it up for a few more weeks and if all continues to go well, try to add a little more.
