Super Weekend Penguins (Read 13 times)

GinnyinPA

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

What's up this weekend?  Anybody having a Super Bowl party?

Jerry is in New Orleans, eating beignets and crawfish etouffee, I assume.

D - is your husband running NO? How is the knee?

It's a beautiful sunny but cold day here.  I'll go run my 10 as soon as the temperature goes above freezing.  First, we walk Ben, but I can do that well wrapped in down coat and gloves.

Morning!  Knee is better, thanks.  I might bike tonight to see how the range is.  We were not going to NO this year.  We have the DC RnR on the 11th of March and I'm definitely skipping it.  We might just not go altogether.

        Enjoy the 10.

        She laughs at me......

D, glad the knee isn't talking to you too much. It's probably a good idea to drop the race plans for the next couple of months at least.

Ginny, good luck on the 10.

It's taken a few weeks, but I'm finally getting the 'think of other things besides watching the stupid numbers on the console' back. 7.25 today.

They're doing the controlled burns almost daily. I wouldn't be running at all without the TM.

Lol. not going to happen. I am missing one marathon but racing by April.  I can start running in two weeks or so.

The surgery was in January, so April is sorta 3 months.....

January 31, but I like how you think!  Ha.  I mean, I'll be running in 2 weeks or so, but I don't want to go and do the marathon in April.  I want to try and do a better job of not slogging through it.  Two HMs in April and May (one on each month) should be good prep for the marathon at the end of May, I think.  After that, no more breaks.

Cycled on the trainer for 30 minutes (around 5 miles) for leg turnover.  Felt great.  Will try some more tomorrow.  Hoping he lets me start walking for exercise as of Monday.  I can bend the knee and do squats and lunges now so maybe I can start doing weights next week as well (and Pilates, of course).  My back needs Pilates badly.

Watching the TM console is the only thing that makes the TM survivable for me.  Last night I figured out that the little dots around the track graphic make my run like a very slow, boring game of Pac Man.

I ran 10.6 outside in the rain today.  It was 50 degrees!

I would go crazy if I watch that on my TM.  A movie and music at the same time does it for me.

Will try an hour on the trainer today.

The new TM has dashes. They are larger than the dots, so it's not as entertaining.

I volunteered at the Rocky Raccoon 100 yesterday. 8 this morning.

Watching these make the TM bearable.

My TM is a clothes drying device this weekend since I did a trail run in the pouring rain instead of wimping out and running by myself somewhere.  It was really good to get out there even if I don't have the legs for the hills really.

The Treadmill TV looks good.  We used to get really crappy wifi in the garage, so Pandora was about all I could manage, and sometimes I had to do offline mode.  But we just got Google wifi, which is awesome, so now maybe I will try bringing my tablet down for TM runs.  We may get some flooding tonight, which can cut off most of my routes from home and make the TM seem more enjoyable.

3 miles with the YouTube TM channel. I'll be using that a lot.

That TM TV looks like fun.  I've watched longer PCT or CDT trail videos, and they do make the time pass quickly. It also doesn't matter if the TM is loud, since it's mostly visual.  I had problems with dialog in movies because I had to turn the TV up so loud to hear it over the old TM it blasted the whole house.

I did my 20 on the C&O Canal in MD.  It was reasonably warm (40s)  and the sun even came out for the last 1/3.  I'm tired and hungry now though. Lots of people were out enjoying the day, and I even got to run with a couple of women for a mile or so before they turned around. They were in MRT also, one for the first time, so we had lots to talk about.
