First Friday of the new year Penguins! (Read 33 times)

Dad on the run.

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Dad on the run.

Hey everyone, I was asked yesterday if I could come in at 5am and help in the Control Room since one of the guys are out and yesterday was production startup. A little annoyed in having to get up at 3am in the morning but I leave at 1pm and that's always nice on a Friday!

I ran / walked 2 miles yesterday on the treadmill, just to cold to run in the dark. Legs felt strong no major pains but I could definitely feel the extra weight I put on over the holidays.

Don't have any real big plans tonight, we are going over to a friends house and having dinner. Chinese chicken salad w/ fried rice and egg rolls! Then we are pulling out my buddy's new telescope and enjoying the night sky!

        Good morning everyone!

Mornin' Jimmy!  Going in early sucks, but like you said, leaving early on a Friday is always nice.

Gonna rest today.  I was going to do a couple of miles just to stay loose for the race tomorrow, but it's just too windy, so I'll do some warmups in the house and call it good.

Hope everyone has a great day, hope all you folks up north are doing ok with the snow!

              Return To Racing

Good Morning Jimmy, Dave, PAD, Bin and DR !!!  Went to the HC for the first time in a couple of weeks.  Felt good.  Now we are going to an early showing of American Hustle and then we will run indoors this afternoon.  Busy day for us.

Stay warm and have a great weekend.

                Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!! I bailed on chorus rehearsal due to rain and snow last night, but this morning things were fairly dry, with just a few icy patches, so that's all good. I had such a hard time getting up this morning, I can't imagine how I did it 5x per week! At least I won't have to work all 5 days next week either -- I have dentist and eye appointments on Wednesday. Anyway, TGIF!!

jblack -- yeah, me being coherent at 3AM would not happen!! Dinner sounds good!!

D2 -- good luck on your race!!

                  PAD -- woo-hoo for your 5!!

                  Bin -- woo-hoo for your 3!!

                  Docket -- have a good 6 tonight!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Hi everyone! I did an easy 3 miles in these frigid Alabama temps. It was 20 with feels like of 8. If you can believe it, I had on too many layers. My friends wife I mentioned earlier in the week is still in ICU on the fence. They think they found the strain of pneumonia that's got her, so hopefully the antibiotics will start working.

I  shoveled snow for 20 minutes this morning (did our house and three neighbors, two of which are older single women).  After that I did a neighborhood 5k route that I promptly regretted.  Weather.com said the temperature was 12 degrees with a feels like of -2.  My body was definitely not too happy with me after that one.  On days like that I typically stay inside, but it is hard to resist running through the neighborhood when there is a fresh layer of snow and everything looks like a snow globe.

                        Hello all.

jblack - Glad the legs are feeling strong. The telescope sounds like fun.

D2 - Good luck on the race tomorrow.

PAD and Bin - Nice job on the runs this morning.

Damaris - Enjoy your run tonight.

Jerry - I hope you enjoy the movie.

HM - Those icy patches can be a pain. That is how I tweaked my knee a few weeks ago.

Mitch - That would be cold for me too. I hope your wife's friend gets better soon.

I am planning on 6-7 miles tonight. I learned yesterday that I need to get up and walk more at work. Both my calf and hamstring were very tight from the blood clot when I got off work. I was worried that I was going to have to go get it checked out. I got home and laid down for about an hour and it felt better. Obviously, sitting is the work thing I can do for it, and my job involves sitting at a desk all day.

Lewjeffrey - That is cold. Good job on the run and the cross training of shoveling snow.

Thanks HM & Dan!  I have no clue what pace to shoot for tomorrow, it's been so long since I've raced.  Guess I'll just go be effort and see where the pace lands.

                            Barking Mad To Run

I have the day off today for a doctor's appointment (routine) and also because over the holidays off-and-on, I worked  a total of 25 hours at the office to help make sure our office team would not be too far behind when everyone came back to work, so I've accrued some "comp time" hours, nice.

Today is a non-run day after 3 days in a row of running. Tuesday, I did 5 miles of hills, hills, and some more hills.  New Year's Day I did the Cobweb Chaser 5K (report  and photos are on the main page somewhere) and Thursday,  I did 3.5 mile easy recovery run/walk.  And then went home and watched the Sugar Bowl and was very happy to see Oklahoma defeat Alabama, yeah, baby!

As for the Cobweb Chaser, our running club photographer and historian, Tom, always does a great job doing a slide show with all our club events.   Here is a link to the show:   http://www.photoshow.com/watch/yi9YN2if .   Tom caught me on course in a couple of them:

And with one of my good buds, Bill, post-race.
