Penguin Power!

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

      Morning Pens!

I'll be doing some treadmill running today.  I think my lungs still aren't quite recovered enough to run in freezing weather.  Also, I've started watching Nurse Jackie on Netflix while I run so it makes the treadmill 100% more tolerable ;-)

Morning!  I have Pilates and maybe a run but with my dad still here, not sure if I'll have time.

Jill, I love the Disney races.  You can PR or have fun.  Both are allowed.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Morning, 5 on the tm done. gym tonight.

          Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  I enjoyed my evening at home last night, complete with bubble bath!!  Quartet rehearsal tonight ... we have a gig next week, so I need to find out when and where, and we'll run through most of our repertoire tonight as a refresher.

Jill -- glad you've found something to make the treadmill tolerable!!  I've never had any success with that.

Docket -- enjoy your time with your dad!!

            PAD -- woo-hoo for your 5 done!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

I'll be doing my miles on the TM too. Our high of 25/feels like 9 degrees is just too cold and windy for me. Walking the dog at 18/2 is bad enough, but at least then we can wear down coats.  I think I'll do some intervals as long as I'm 'milling.

                  Barking Mad To Run

                    Sweeeet San Antonio weather!

Last night it was 61 degrees, sunny, no wind, very low humidity and dewpoint.  Got a nice 4 miles in, starting from one of our local YMCAs, going through the very nice Brackenridge Park on its trails, past the San Antonio Zoo, and then UP a big hill across from the entrance, amy final leg took me through the Trinity University campus, and back to the Y.

Off work today due to appointments and taking one of our kitties to the vet for an exam.  So I followed up last night's outing by doing an outing in Schertz this morning, starting and finishing at the YMCA there.   I planned on doing a nice easy 3 miles after my 4-miler last night, and had my route in my heat that I wanted to do.  First 1.5 miles went okay.  Started to head back to the Y....wait a minute...there's a road I haven't been down before...oh, what the heck, let's go explore it...so off I went like a curious wandering dog, lol....and by the time I finally got back to the Y I had another 4 miles done.  Once again the weather was sweeet, too.  Sunny, 50 degrees, blue skies, low humidity and dewpoint again.  If only it would stay like this all winter!  But I'm sure we still have a couple of colder days coming.  Meanwhile, I am just gonna enjoy what I can get.

Felt strong for both run/walks.  Oh, and funny, when I got back to the Y, I was chatting with one of the workers I know there - also a runner - and when I mentioned I worked for UTSA (U. of Texas at San Antonio) she said, "Really?"  I showed her my ID..and she laughed and said "What? That photo doesn't even look like you!  This guy is fat!"  I laughed and said "That was me when I was at 236 lbs (I am at 186 now) when the photo was taken.  I have lost a bit of weight since then."   I guess I need to get a new UTSA ID, lol, cuz when I did my run on Sunday and finished at the Institute of Texan Cultures - which is part of UTSA - one of the UTSA police, checking my ID, told me the same thing the Y-lady did.
