The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

      Morning Penguins!

Ratification Day in the United States refers to the anniversary of the ratification of the Treaty of Paris on January 14, 1784 at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland by the Confederation Congress. This act officially ended the American Revolution and established the U.S. as a sovereign entity.

Road trip today so I was out at 4:00 and got 1.5 done (insane).

Hey Pad, thanks for the start.

4.7 last night, had about 18 people that showed up for our work C25K program. Not sure about today, we're waiting for news on my FIL, he's in the Heart Hospital getting some tests done. They found more blockage, and due to his multiple bypass surgeries in the past, there are not any options. My wife will be on edge all day, I told her last night that she needs to go today(8hours), then let me know when/if I need to come.

        hog4life

Hey friends, I want to add a little something about my FIL that I think is important for all of us. He started having these bypass surgeries over 20 years ago due to blockage, and although he has fought through 3 more of these surgies, survived breast cancer, he deglected to change his lifestyle. He is now diabetic, although not grossly overweight, he doesn't manage his sugar worth a crap. His sugar typically runs in the 300-400 range, and I've seen it as high as 500+. I hope and pray for the sake of my wife, that he can continue to fight for his life, but he is getting very tired. The heart doctors cannot, and will not, do surgery due to his sugar being out of control.

I say all of this........ because it shows the importance of exercising and eating right to maintain a healthy life. I'm not saying he should be doing marathons, or running 20 miles per week like some of us do, but he should have got off the couch after his first bypass.

Thanks for listening and letting me vent a little!

Morning!  I have 5 miles tonight.  Didn't sleep last night due to coughing all night.  Bah.

              Barking Mad To Run

4.4 miles of hills for me after work yesterday.   Not baby hills either.  My legs are a tad sore this morning.  However, if I'm not feeling too lazy by the end of the work day, I plan to try and get to the gym for a weight training circuit today.

                Safe road trip, PAD!

So sorry about your FIL, Mitch, wishing you and family all the best.

Well, Jerry, it's probably a good thing you are going to the eye doctor first, so you CAN see your college buddy.

Sorry about the coughing, Damaris.  Get some stuff called Delsym and take it about 3 hours before bedtime.  This stuff works great to quiet coughs.  It won't cure the cough, but it will quiet it so you can sleep.  Good luck with the 5 miles.

Morning!  Yesterday became an URD since I didn't get home until late, and today is a SRD since we are going to see Nebraska after work.  But I should still be able to get my miles in, starting tomorrow.

PAD- Nice work getting up and out early!

Mitch- So sorry to hear about your FIL.  My thoughts are with him, and with your DW.

Jerry- Have fun catching up with the old buddy!

D- Hope the cough clears up!

Scotty- Way to go on the hills!

Dan- Hope you have a good run tonight!

                    Singer who runs a smidge

Hi Penguins!!  Not much news going on today, hoping to get out for another little walk if the rain lets up.  I'm such a weather wuss!!  Tomorrow I have my final CT scan to make sure everything has settled back down from my drug reaction.  If my lymph nodes are still enlarged, then they'll schedule a biopsy to look for lymphoma.  But considering that the nodes in my neck deflated pretty quickly and I feel fine, I suspect there won't be a problem.  The scan is at 8AM, but I have no idea when I'll hear the results.

PAD -- yes, 4AM is insane!!

hog -- sending good thoughts for your FIL!!

Jerry -- enjoy the time with your friend!!

Docket -- hope you stay awake and cough-free today!!

scotty -- Well, you ARE a hillkiller!!

Dan -- have a good run tonight!!

Zelanie -- you're going to tour an entire state after work?  WOW!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                        Morning, guys!

Mitch, sorry to hear that abt your FIL.  Hopefully he will run a bit off you on the healthy lifestyle.

                          Hi Pens...

                          PAD: Safe travels.

Hog: Sorry to hear about the FIL. My FIL is like Keith Richards... tons of awful life choices and he's still kicking.

Jerry: Have fun with your buddy. If you ever go to San Diego to see him, plan a race. There are races just about every weekend.

D: Great pic with the soldier.

Scotty: A tough run AND the gym! Yes!  You are raising the bar. Smile

Dan: Nice excuse for last night. Wink

Zel: Let us know how Nebraska is. There aren't many movies I want to see but that is one of them.

HsM: Eww... good luck with that.

Bin: Nice run. Are you following a plan for your HM?

As for me, I have just been doing slow easy runs, nothing over six miles. I will get four or five on the track while DD swims. My massage is Thursday so I hope that gets some spring back in my legs. After the marathon and the PF, my legs just feel tired. That Pfitz plan really beat me up, but suppose it was worth it. It will be interesting to run a marathon and not "race" it like I did the last one.  Oh, I got a FB and the world hasn't stopped spinning.

                          Have a good day.

Made it to the gym for a bike workout last night. Will swim after work tonight if I'm feeling ok. It feels like I'm fighting something off.

Jack, that cracked me up about FB. I need to find you.

Little update, they are keeping FIL, getting him off the Plavix, getting his sugar down, and will be able to do surgery. Still scary though bc it will be open heart, and the risks are very high. So now we are waiting to see when the sugery will schedule, then the wife and I will take a road trip.
