Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!) Big grin

Whitherward:  Toward what or which place?   So, Penguins, toward what, or to which place are you heading today?

Rest day for me, haircut after work.  Starting to touch my ears, driving me crazy!  Funny, cuz before my military days, in the 60s and early 70s, I was one of those long-haired, bearded "hippy freaks" lol.  Now, after having been in the military for 24 years, I can't stand to have my hair long. The times of our lives, how they do change, lol.

        Hey everyone!

Mornin' Scotty!  Short term, I'm heading to work.  Long term, I'm heading towards a life of fitness and happiness.  I guess technically, I'm already there, but it's a continuous journey. Smile

7 miles done this morning, wasn't as muggy as it was yesterday, which was nice.  I threw in some strides to try to wake my legs up for my race on Saturday.  First set and they were like, "WTF are you doing?!?!" lol  By the last set they were feeling good and I clipped 5:35.  Felt good to move fast again, I've just been slogging along all summer.

Hope everyone has a great day!

              Smaller By The Day

Warning.  Phone post.  Not sure if it was the 20 mph winds, or the calorie deficit, but maintaining my paces was really tough yesterday.  Then, I got a hot spot on the bottom of my foot and realized my shoes have gotten loose.  I had to stop 7 miles in and adjust my lock laces.  Oh well, one run isn't going to kill me with as consistent as my training has been.  I was also informed yesterday that St. Jude Children's Research hospital is sending me a team jersey.  If that doesn't make your day, I don't know what will.  Happy hump day Penguins.

                  Good morning all!

Scotty -- I'm due for a haircut soon also.

Dave -- 5:35 is pretty damn fast

Jerry -- hopefully you will get a gentle hygienist.  There is one at my dentist, when she cleans my teeth I hardly feel a thing.  The other one seems to go out of her way to poke me with pointy instruments.

Kristin -- I would love to find a place to get a massage just on my legs.  I've had a couple of massages with the full "lay here and listen to the music and tinkle bells and relax" experience.  That's okay, but what I really want now is someone to knead the knots out of my legs.

Awood -- happy hump day to you too

AFM -- I've got an 8.5 mile aerobic run on my plan for tonight.  Last week I had to bail after only 5 miles, but this week I have new shoes and cooler weather -- no excuses not to finish the whole thing.

Morning!  After my close encounter with asthma during my intervals last night, I am not sure how the chest will react, but I am attempting 6 miles tonight.  Allergy shot this morning and so far, so good.

Oh yea....and running.... I was going to do that before my massage but I was too lazy to get out of bed, so I guess I will do it later. This is a first world problem. LOL!

                        I love not working.....

And Phillie- I get a medical/deep tissue massage. It is NOT the relax, listen to music type, my massage therapist tortures me lol. I have him concentrate on my hips, IT band, quads and calves and work all those knots out. And my right quad has a KNOT that has been giving me issues....that is gonna HURT getting out today but....meh lol.

                          Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  I am hopefully heading toward getting my instrument fixed, and also heading toward quartet tonight!  I'm supposed to get my board in today, and then my engineer is supposed to call this afternoon to set a date for the fix.  My local guy isn't available, but I know this other guy, so that's all good.  Then quartet tonight should be a blast -- our sound is coming together and our repertoire is expanding, so that's all good.

Scotty -- have a good buzz cut!!

D2 -- glad you're out of your slog!!

Jerryb -- good luck at the dentist!!

                            kristin -- massage, yay!!

Awood -- congrats on the jersey, hope the next run rocks!!

Phillie -- cooler weather makes such a difference, I bet you'll sail through your 8.5!!

Bin -- drink extra fluids and get extra sleep!!

Docket -- hope your chest behaves!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                            Jack K.

                              Hi Pens...

SRD for me. I have back to school night tomorrow evening and I have a 10 mile run scheduled. I might have to suck it and get up at 4:30 to get in my run. I'm a bit OCD when I get on a training schedule (at least DW says so).

PF: What kind of shoes did you get? I'm about ready for a new pair myself.

Bin: A cup of green tea and honey usually does me well.
