Wednesday New Years Eve Penguins (Read 17 times)

PADRunner

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

5.6 on the TM this morning. I added my marathon route to ifit in 5 segments and have been running it. I ran 3 of 5 today, nice and flat.

Morning!  Pilates and 5 miles after work.

        PAD, nice run.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

          Good morning Penguins!

PAD, great idea to run the course like that.

Damaris, have a great run tonight.

I'm headed out for 7+ as soon as I finish my coffee.  Then tonight we leave on the Brilliant Family Vacation to Maui.  Smile  It's actually been cold and dreary here for a few days so it will be a nice change of pace. Typically, Californians don't really *need* a winter getaway to Hawaii like folks from other states do. Smile

          Barking Mad To Run

Got in a run/walk yesterday of 3.5 miles.  Wind was blowing like crazy and things were a bit soggy from the light drizzle here all Tuesday morning.  I went out about noon-time and did trails through the park near the San Antonio Zoo.  The multitude of trees in the park gave me a nice wind-breaker effect and it felt surprisingly pleasant on the trails, even though the temp was hovering between 39 and 41, with the wind making it feel a bit cooler.  The worst part of the run/walk was the open area as I headed back to the YMCA, dang wind was right in my face.   After I got back to the Y, that HOT shower felt great!

I have off work today.   Right now it is almost 9 a.m. Texas time.   Temp of 37 degrees with a 'feels like" of  26 - BRRRRR! - and some rain threatening.   Will probably go to Fort Sam Houston and 'brave' this cold to get in about 3 or 4 miles.   There is a midnight 5K scheduled at Fort Sam too - this is usually my first race of my running year - but the temps are supposed to drop WAY down tonite, with rain coming down, and ICY roads...so I will probably pass, it is bad enough being on normal roads on New Year's Eve with lots of crazy people out there; I think I will just avoid the icy roads and stay home SAFE and just start my running year off tomorrow morning with my New Year's Day 5K, which is only about 1 mile from my house....much safer!

I am SO jealous! Hawaii is my favorite place in the world!  Lived there 4 years during my military days and that is where I met and married my wife, Gail.   Wish I could afford to live there FOREVER these days..where is my darn winning lottery ticket?

Happy vacation, Brilliant, and safe travel!  And, of course, Great Legs Bikini Photos of you to follow, right?

              Return To Racing

Good morning and happy new year.

I am working today and will have a short run this afternoon.  Hope it gets up to 20F as predicted.

As usual, we will be home tonight.  Couldn't convince DW to a midnight run to complete the holiday streak (many layers)!!!

                Have a great trip Brill.

                Team TJ

                  Hey y'all.

4.6 miles this morning to end the year with a total of 616 miles.  Did not meet my yearly goal but I'm fine with it.  Looking forward to getting 2015 started.

Running for TJ because he can't.

                    Hi Pens.

SRD for me but we are going to have some beer and sushi tonight. That's nice but not as nice as Maui.

                    Happy NYE.

Haven't decided if I want to run or not today. My knees are a little achy this morning.

Brilliant, have fun on your trip.

Happy NYE, y'all. I should've posted a flat runner for my frigid run last night, but it wouldn't have all fit in the frame. Wink 3 miles done yesterday, which earns me a RD today. Don't drink and drive tonight!

Scotty, were you on Oahu? Navy? My dad was a career Navy officer but he was never stationed in Hawaii. I got to live in California, the east coast, and Greece, which was pretty cool. Anyway, hubby and I love Hawaii; we go about once a year.

                            Brilliant

Ugh, I'm on my iPad at the Ford dealer waiting for oil change on hubby's truck...I pecked out a lengthy response to everyone but somehow deleted everything but Scotty when I hit return...anyway Happy New Year and happy running all! Thanks for the encouragement this year and am looking forward to next!
