Week 31 Penguins are on top of it!! (09/13-09/19) (Read 8 times)

Singer who runs a smidge

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."  And some penguins don't run at all, we just hang out for the company! It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Well, today is I'm On Top Of It Day, which seems a bit more hopeful than realistic, at least when it comes to my life.  I had an extremely busy weekend, closing on my house refinance, attending a virtual chorus education event, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.  Luckily a lot of the things were one-time stressors, so now I can quit worrying about them, because I'm about at the end of my rope.

When I got my terminal contract I started looking for another job, and I wanted a local one because I don't want to leave the friends I've gained here.  I got a position with Aflac, and they were enthusiastic about training me and getting me started, even giving me flexibility to finish things off here at work and to explore training with Aflac while on leave from my university position, so that I didn't have to jump off the edge quite so suddenly.  So I've been studying for my insurance license while doing EVERYTHING else, and the test is on Thursday.  Once I have that behind me, I can start using my leave pretty soon (I think) to do Aflac training rather than working here every day.  I'll still be in on Mondays, because I still have to teach and do research, but I can stop burning the candle at both ends quite so vigorously.

So there's a light at the end of my tunnel, I'm just not quite sure when I'll get to it.  But it's coming sooner rather than later, so that's good.

Meanwhile, I made triple chocolate cookies, and they are heavenly!!

This was the first batch out of the oven:

Not sure I'm on top of anything today but getting there.

I ran 2 this morning and more tonight. It was a nice 53F and wish I could've run more then.

Hopes Mom, good luck with the test.

HM - those cookies look good! Good luck with the insurance test.

Morning, all!!  Well, the lecture that I really didn't want to give is now over, except that I sort of have to teach it again to get it up online, but that's ok.  It's never as awkward online as it is in person, or at least I don't care as much about it being awkward online.  And unless they go out of their minds and call me in as adjunct next year, I'll never have to teach it again!!  Now, of course, I have to get the rest of the class up online too ... no rest for the wicked ...

Oh, and I biked in today and actually needed a jacket!!  I'm generally fonder of summer than winter, because I get cold so easily, but fall and spring have a lot of charm ...

Last night walking Ben was the first chilly night in a long time. I had a light jacket, but could have used more. Jim said he hoped it wasn't an omen for the winter.

I ran outside yesterday. Between the allergy shot, the 75F weather, and the hazy smoke from the fires in the West, my chest is congested and my throat is sore which is not helping with my hearings and meetings.  RD.

HopesMom, glad you were able to bike.

Ginny, I don't mind a cold winter; just not 10" of snow, TYVM or ice.

Isn't 10" of snow kind of the norm for where you are now?

Biked in again today -- the ragweed pollen is through the roof here, but it's supposed to rain tomorrow and Friday and knock it back a little.  We didn't open the windows last night, as it was a bit too cool for that.

I'm off tomorrow -- I have to take my insurance license test for my new job, and it's at 1:30, so I bagged the entire day.  I think I'm pretty well prepared for the test, so I'm going to enjoy my day off.

In Indy? No. We don't get much snow as we are not close to the lakes enough to get a lot of snow like they do. I think the most we got last time was 8" in two days which was really 3" and 5" since they clean like every hour. And they told me that was rare. Most of the snow we got was 1-2" total. We do get a lot of ice but last year there were only two days with slush on the ground.

Sounds like you handle snow better than we do!  Of course we're considered "the South", so we scream and head to the grocery store for bread and milk at the impending threat of six snowflakes.

I pretty much aced my test yesterday, so that's all good.  Moving forward!

I also biked in today, which I didn't think I was going to be able to do, but they dropped the rain forecast to 20%.  Though it looked awfully ominous this morning, so I hope it clears up a bit by this afternoon.  And DH forgot to tighten the lid to my water bottle, so I got wet all down my side when I picked up my backpack.  Well, if that's the worst thing that happens today ...

HM - I have a bad habit of not tightening water bottle lids so I get wet a lot that way. Did you get a lot of rain from the hurricane? We've had very dark skies this week, that look very threatening, but no rain. It has been dust  from the fires out west. Congratulations on doing well on your test. Now you can enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Afternoon! As soon as I got into bed last night, my nose got clogged and I was coughing. Not sure if it's the comforter we really put on the bed that's been in the closet for 4 months. Anyway, didn't sleep much but had hubby wake me up so I could run in 45F. And apparently a lot of wind. 6 with 2 @ HMP done. Pilates in a minute.

HopesMom, yeah, the Midwest is pretty good at cleaning snow. Glad the rain forecast went down. Congrats!

                            Ginny, hi!
