Thermophilous Thursday Penguins (Read 29 times)

Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Thermophilous:  preferring or thriving in high temperatures

Yep, that is definitely me!  I am a Thermophilous Penguin, definitely preferring Texas spring and summer over the fall and winter.  I'd rather have it be  90 degrees than 40 degrees!   Thermophilous Penguins, stand up and be counted!

Another dang cold morning here in San Antonio, went all the way into the upper 20s last night/early this mornng....BRRR!     Thankfully, the day is "kind of' warming up quickly and we will have a high today of 54...which is still too dang cold for me, lol.  I want it to be back to what our temps are usually for this time of the year, mid-60s.     I plan on doing some hill work after work today, 3 - 4 miles, in the park near the San Antonio Zoo.   And because it is ONLY 54 degrees, I will be wearing a light base layer underneath my top running shirt...cuz that's the way we cold-weather wimp South Texans roll.

I am not one of those!  I hate this shit.  It was 83F during my run last night.  After dark!

8 miles at GA pace and core tonight.  Hoping to bring Trixie home until her biopsy is arranged.  Maybe through Monday.  Cross your fingers.

Morning Scotty, I guess I am happy with higher temp cos I don't like the cold.. I don't have any chances to run in cold weather so I don't know abt that.. Just speaking abt living.

Damaris, hope trixie get to go home today.

Wanted to do somewhat longer run today but still stuck in office.. 10pm where I am now.. Maybe will do it tmr but motivation is lacking.. haa

Knee is better, but I am going to give it an extra day to be safe. The problem with knees is that coming back too quickly will set you all the way back. If I am going to pick a week to be banged up, at least it is a cold week.

Scotty, I think I'm goldilocks-philous. I like temps JUST RIGHT, not too hot & not too cold.

dam, hope trixie's biopsy is okay. I have to start giving my rescue cat b12 shots.  Kinda freaks me out as I've never done That before.

bin, have you fully recovered yet?  I hear lots of people get in a rut after marathons. Understandably.

Im going to the gym in a little while to run a little on  the treadmill and then do arms n legs on the machines.

                Hi Pens.

First off, here's hoping all the sick pets get well ASAP. D, Zel, JBJ, anyone else?

Bin: what's next on the race calendar?

                Scotty: Stay warm!

D: good luck with Trixie and stay cool. (how weird is that in December).

Traci: are you running outside at all?

For me, the week or two of rest continues.

                Hi Pens to follow.

Dan, be careful with that clot thing!  Sounds serious. I LOL at your nurse flipping out about your last HM.  How will they know its gone? Ultrasound? I had ultrasound on my leg when I was pregnant (because I had swelling in one leg) and the ultrasound hurt so bad!  (I didn't end up having a clot)

Dan, good call to rest those knee for another day.

Traci, physically recovered.. Mentally need a little push but it's the usual sleeping in temptation that I get so often even while doing my last cycle..

Jack, thinking of a 02 Mar HM to touch that 1:45.. Early bird closed on 31 Dec so still 2 weeks to think abt it.. It does have a full but I am not ready yet.. What abt yourself?

Scott - 54 degrees. That is balmy. Cancel that. Damris' run was balmy. Yours was still on the warm side.

Damaris - I hope that Trixie gets better soon. Have a nice run tonight.

This is not the same knee problems from early 2012. I was stupid and ran 10 miles on the ice Sunday. I tweaked the knee somehow from running on the ice. I still do a lot of core work that I was taught during PT that keeps me from having the CMP and tendonitis that was giving the problems in 2012.

Bin - Get it done. You will be happy you did.

                            Traci - Enjoy the dreadmill.

I am on blood thinners for the next two months. In two months I go back for a ultrasound. If the clot is gone, then I am off blood thinners and on to aspirin for the rest of my life. If the clot isn't gone, I do blood thinners for three more months and do another ultrasound. There is nothing they can do to clear the clot. It has to break up on its own. The blood thinners help keep additional clotting from occurring.

Jack - You have earned that rest.

No brace. I could hardly walk on Monday, but it is healing rather quickly this week. I am being extra cautious because my fitness level sucks right now anyway because I was out for a month from the blood clot. Also, the holidays are coming up. I really don't see myself getting back into a real groove until early January. There is no need to hurry back.
