B&B 2022 Miles Game (Read 50 times)

Waltons ThreadLord

This will be year 2 of the Miles Game started by Cyberic in 2021.  The game is for fun, to see how each of us is doing, and (hopefully) to see how it runs over multiple years.  I'm maintaining the spreadsheet & scores, but that doesn't mean I own the game; the group owns the game.

If you're not on the roster, but would like to join, post in this thread.

    • Game is individual
    • Each player's weekly target for the year is based on the average miles of their past 3 years, with the average divided by 365 and multiplied by 7.  No adjustment is made for leap years in calculating the average.
    • Weekly miles are rounded to 1 decimal point
    • Weeks run from Monday to Sunday
    • There will be 51 weeks this year, with week 1 starting Monday, January 3
    • There are two elements of scoring:  weekly miles vs. target and consistency week over week.
    • Consistency will be measured via the standard deviation of the set of each week's difference vs. your average weekly miles.  The 10 players with the lowest standard deviations will get points in increments of 10, with the lowest getting 100, the second lowest 90, etc.
    • Scoring per week ranges from 0 to 20 points like this:
    • If you hit your weekly mileage you get 10 points
    • You get 1 extra point for each 10% completed over your goal, to a max of 100% (or 10 extra points)
    • You lose a point for each 10% under target.
    • In Excel terms, the formula is MIN(10+TRUNC((Weekly Miles - Target)/(Target/10)),20)
    • Examples below

A runner has a 24 miles per week target, so extra points are added/subtracted for each 2.4 miles above or below target

    • 21 miles = 9 points  (difference of 3 miles)
    • 19 miles = 8 points (difference of 5 miles)
    • 26 miles = 10 points (difference of 2 miles)
    • 60 miles = 20 points (20 points is the max)

A runner has a 60 miles per week target, so extra points are added/subtracted for each 6 miles above or below target

    • 65 miles = 10 points (difference of 5 miles)
    • 50 miles = 8 points (difference of 15 miles)
    • 80 miles = 13 points (difference of 20 miles)

Each player's miles for the last three years and their target for the 2022 game is listed below.  Please let me know if there are any errors.

Damn, my target per week last year was 40 and now it is 46.  I expect to be mid-pack this year.

That's why this will really be neat as a long-term, multi-year game.  People who rack up big miles one year will have a higher target the next year.

Mine went from 36 to 40.  Unfortunately I'm going to have difficulty coming close to that for the first few months due to medical issues I've been experiencing.

             2024 Races:

                  03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles

                  05/11 - D3 50K
                  05/25 - What the Duck 12-Hour

                  06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.

Thanks for continuing the game Fred. Not sure what my plans are for 2022 yet, but I may not be as consistent... thinking of maybe throwing in a rest week here and there, so I'd say consistency gold is up for grabs!

Tell me about it. I go from 48 to 59.  It was fun while it lasted.

It goes back to the fainting spell and vertigo I had in July.  There were indications I was occasionally skipping a heart beat so I had a loop recorder implanted which confirmed that.  The beginning of December I had that replaced with a pacemaker, then had some complications with blood clots.  All seems well for now but all that cut into training and it looks like a slow road back.
