Tuesday Penguins Need Their Rest! (Read 21 times)

Zelanie

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Morning!  I have Pilates and 5-6 miles tonight.

      Hi, Z!

      Damaris

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Hi guys.  I did wait until the sun was going down (and the temp dropped to 90) before going out last night, and I'm glad I did, even if it did mean wearing a headlamp 2 weeks before the solstice.  Ran a really nice 8 miler.

Today is a rest day because there is a thing at my school tonight for the 5th graders, and since they were my students back in 1st, I gotta go congratulate them.

D- Hi there, sneaky!  I bet you needed the rest last night after the workout and allergy shot!  Have a good run later!

        Lauren- Hugs.

          Penguin Power!

I ran 1.3 miles outside this morning before heading home to try to finish on the TM.  They were all full (it was really muggy so I think a lot of people had the same idea I did).  I'm feeling a bit run down so I may just call it a day as far as running.  If I'm feeling better later I'll try to do another 3.7 miles to make it to 5 for the day.

            Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)

6.3 miles done with club this morning.

                Singer who runs a smidge

Hey Penguins!!  Quickie fly-by for me ... my regular physical therapist was out sick this morning, so I saw a new chick.  I wasn't impressed -- she didn't seem to want to continue with what my regular therapist was doing, and instead wanted to reevaluate me from the beginning.  So her analysis was not tight IT bands and weak hips and glutes, but biomechanical issues in that my kneecaps point outwards and when I walk and run, my ankle joints collapse inwards slightly.  I didn't have the heart to tell her that that's called pronation and it's completely normal.  Anyway, she spent most of the time lecturing me on my shoes, because minimalist shoes are just terrible.  I told her that I'd tried switching back to traditional shoes and it hurt much worse, but that didn't fit with her world view, so she pretty much ignored it.  If I'd've seen her first, I would never have continued with PT this long -- she just didn't do much of anything for me.

Docket -- have a good 5-6 and Pilates!!

Zelanie -- glad it was a little cooler for you!!

kristin -- have a good 5 and strength!!

sapf -- hope you have a good TM finish, or that you enjoy the break!!

PAD -- have fun at group tonight!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                    Barking Mad To Run

Easy run today after work, somewhere on a shaded path as it will be 90 degrees by 4 PM (when I get off work) with a 'feels like' temp of 93.  So not too bad yet for here, we have not gotten close to the 100s so far.  By the end of the month we probably will, though, and then for July and August it will be time to become an early morning runner instead of an after-work runner.

HsM..you know your body best...and sure hope your regular PT gets back quickly.

Congrats on your club miles, Brilliant.  Which hand do you carry the club in when you run?

                      Return To Racing

4 for us.  55DP felt like 60.  So, while we are out running, DD (working at home and staying with us while her condo is remodeled) comes home and forgets the alarm code.  She calls DW to get the code but her phone dies.  So the alarm is going off and DD unfortunately has a conference call with 300 people on the call which she can't call until DW runs home and shuts it off.  Luckily, on the way home, DW flags down the cop that is heading for our house, and at least stops him from showing up.  Another working at home adventure, LOL !!!

                        From the Internet.

Roller coaster ride is almost over. Kitty is not a great candidate for surgery after all, lymphoma is far more likely at her age than thymoma, and either way follow up treatments would be needed after the $4-5k surgery. I am the saddest. Picking up prednisone from the vet to see if we can keep her comfortable until it becomes clear that it's time for her to go.

Ended up with 5.25. The extra .25 was cuz I realized I needed to go to a store for something so I just ran there.
