The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
Tomorrow is Evaluate Your Life Day. Something to ponder on your run.
Good morning Penguins! I'm headed out shortly for something long-ish (at least 8, but we'll see how I feel at various loop-around points). Last night I had a pain-free pedi - toes seem all better - so I'm ready for this!
I doubt I'll "evaluate" my life on my run. If I'm not listening to something educational or inspirational, I typically just zone out.
Who's running this weekend? Scotty & Jerry & ??? Good luck to you!
Morning, 5 done. It was a tossup this morning between evaluating life or chocolate cupcakes. Still pondering but I think cupcakes will win.
Morning! I have a run with hubby tonight, so between 4 and 10 miles later.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

I just did 4.7 on a beautiful Fall day perfect for running. Although I did get warm at the end.
Ive been listening to podcasts of Dr. McDougall - the doc that pushes a high starch vegan low fat diet for heart DISEASE prevention etc. . I'm thinking of trying it. I did paleo for 2 months but I didn't like all the
meat and fat. I've done Vegan too but not high starch low fat vegan. Hmmm.
Chocolate cupcakes sound good. Is there a diet that emphasizes that? I need a shower I smell.
Have a good weekend pengs!

Good morning Penguins!
Today I have scheduled 2 miles and hopefully I can get them in (not feeling so hot today).
Yesterday was a long day, but it was a breathtaking day. It started off with escorting Korean media during a refueling flight with the Alaskan Air National Guard. While we were flying around, I got some photos of Denali National Park from the air. Actually, it was in the boom operator's space. The views were absolutely to die for up there. Then after work my husband and I went out with friends. On the way home I saw the auroras, faintly, but still made an appearance. So I grabbed my camera and took some photos of it. Since it was a clear (and cold) evening and the moon wasn't out, I took advantage of the timing and got a few photos of the stars (and stars with the aurora). Overall, it was a breathtaking day. Got to see so many of the natural wonders of Alaska.
Checkout some of the photos I took here on this slideshow: http://s79.photobucket.com/user/ladynred1920/slideshow/Alaska%2010_17_2014
Penguin Power!
Got my physiology midterm done this morning - then went for my 7 mile run. Off to spend the rest of the weekend with the in-laws shortly.
Cupcakes sound really good right about now! Too bad I'm currently engaged in an epic battle with the Blerch =D
Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)
Rach, thanks for sharing those pics. They are beautiful !
Gorgeous pics!
Rach, that's insane! Gorgeous.
If I can get a nap in, I'm going to take a run later. W5D?
Call me Ray (not Ishmael)
Graet pics!
Cool pics! I'd love to see the auroras some day.
This is the aurora in the same area I was in last night. This photo was taken last winter. In this photo the KP was a 5 and the one last night was only a 2. You can tell a huge difference between the two. Regardless, it's beautiful to see. Takes your breath away.
