I didn't fare too well at my first ever yoga class last week. A class which combined Pilates and yoga (hey, it sounded like a great idea at the time!), and emphasized breathing in through the nose and out the mouth. It was something that as a runner, I just don't do, and I never got the hang of it. Aside from that, I spent most of the class confused because I didn't know what the hell she was talking about most of the time!

Anyway, tonight I shall try this stupid shit again. Different class, different location...

Same me though so probably the same result.

      Good morning!

A yoga/pilates class would have to be good for any of us.  I'm too lazy to do such a thing though.

I ran 10.4 slow miles with temps in the high teens.  It was nice after I got warmed up.  Lack of wind makes everything better.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good thing they asked you do yoga breathing instead of Pilates breathing.

Morning!  Pilates tonight.  Maybe a run but my dad is still home until his GF arrives from El Paso tonight.

Doing a group activity for the first time always puts me out of my comfort zone and takes a lot of mental energy.  I hate being the noob.

We got some snow last night and everything is slick this morning, so I treadmilled my tempo run.  10 minute warm up, then 15, 15, 10 minutes at 6:50 pace with three minute recoveries.  8.3 miles total at 7:14 avg pace.  I am not fully recovered from Saturday's 10K...that workout was tough, and I was hurtin'.  My heart rate didn't get all that high and my legs were tired.  I'm glad it's done.  And I am glad that's all I have today for workouts.

          Coffee time!

In the vein of "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?" ...

If a 15 MPH headwind + an uphill cause a tempo interval to fall short of tempo pace, is it still a tempo interval?

(Re: the original question, I maintain that it does, because if it didn't, then the matter of whether anyone is around would be irrelevant... since there is nothing to hear anyway.)

              I'll run easy today.

I would try yoga if it were just equilibrium and strength, but the whole zen thing and breathing and relaxing is not for me.

I don't think they are all like this. Or at least, I have done some yoga for triathletes videos and they were more about balance, strength and stretching.

Oh, I hate that "zen and breathing" thing -- I've been known to fall asleep in classes like that.  (And I have a lot of trouble falling asleep.)  Iyengar yoga is much more to my liking.  Not that I do it very much, but still.

Yes, because the body recognizes effort, we're the ones who get fixated on pace.

I used to be of this mindset and in fact, it is exactly the reason I avoided it for as long as I did. But I have come to a crossroad with running where a lifetime of inflexibility has threatened my ability to race competitively again, so I am doing something drastic (as if stretching in the first place wasn't drastic enough, FFS).

I am committed to giving this a fair shot because honestly, nothing I have done on my own has worked.

                          Guess I haven't checked in lately. Let's see ...

Saturday - DNS'd a 5k because the previous day's slush had frozen with a dusting of snow on top.

Sunday - 5 miles on the indoor track before a yoga class.

Monday - URD. Don't really remember why. Huh.

Tuesday - 6 miles on the indoor track.

Today - URD because I felt like crap after a two-hour dental procedure yesterday and decided to sleep in instead.

20,000 miles behind me, the world still to see.

LRB: Be patient with the yoga, son. It doesn't have to be perfect, and you'll get better at it. If you have a good instructor, they'll tell you what you should be feeling with each pose. I've done a ton of yoga and never got into the touchy-feely zen side of it. I just did it for the flexibility, strength, and balance. And some styles are good cardio too. I even DGAF about the breathing that much, TBH, despite the instructors telling you that is the #1 thing to focus on.

Did my 13 mile MLR this morning. Up at 4:00 ffs, to get it in before work. (And I have 14's and 15's to look forward to.) First 2/3 in a light drizzle, last 1/3 in some serious rain, got pretty soaked. But overall went really well. Just, y'know, long, for a weekday. Again faster than expected; avg 8:23 pace, similar to yesterday, but generally more consistent splits. Tomorrow is a 5 mile recovery paced run, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

You do realize running fast involves breathing and relaxing.

(though - if you attempt the Yoga "breathe only through the nose" thing...  yeah riiight... good luck with that)
