Lo And Behold, It's Thursday Penguins! (Read 30 times)

Fear is a Liar

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails!

What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Fear is a Liar

      Good Morning Colony!

Kind of an unscheduled rest day for me yesterday. I was a little tired from my 7 miler the day before and couldn't decide on a rest day or not. Well finally 9pm comes around and I decided on a rest day. Hopefully will get out for some miles sometime today. It's supposed to rain so I may get wet.

Zelanie - I have not asked the physical therapists if I could run or not, I just do it and tell them about it. Maybe tonight I'll bring it up.

Baconista - about the fencing - we have done demonstrations for other events/situations/etc, but unfortunately we were not paid. Maybe we need to work on a marketing strategy!

Jack - good luck on your upcoming vacation half marathon!

I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!

        Good morning Colony!

Morning Gustav, good luck on your run later.  If it's warm out I love running in the rain.  Not only does it cool me down (I'm always so warm when I run) but I feel totally badass running in the pouring rain.

I was up early enough to run this morning and the weather is beautiful but I was lazy-ish last night and did nothing after running, yoga, plank challenge, and doing the Strong Strides DVD and did nothing to prepare for today.  So I've been getting stuff done this morning.  I'll run a few miles after work and then I think  might go for a little walk on some of the trails in a park nearby.

I forget who asked me but we are in school until June 25th, ugh.

Dan, I have tried water skiing too and I fell  a few times but it was fun.  Water tubing is more up my alley though.

Happy Thursday, Penguins! Happy running. Clowning around

        Steph

Gustav, Taking a break is good.. Hope you can get some miles later.. In the rain, yah or nah?

Steph, congrats on getting all the exercise done early in the day.. Hope you get a good trail walk later..

8M easy done in the morning.. Was thinking of mobile hydration after reading Robert's thread but couldn't make myself to spend so much on camelbak.. In the end, I got the fuelbelt revenge 4 as they are on 30% at a local store..

              Good morning everyone.

Got five miles in yesterday after work.  Today is an SRD but I might run because tomorrow is not looking good for running (weather and schedule).

Here's a photo from Saturday's 5K.  DH said he had me all lined up, and I even waved -- but this lady came out of nowhere.  Her expression is funny in contrast to mine -- one of us is doing it wrong!  I checked her finish time, she finished second in her age group so it was probably worth the effort.

This is me with my dad.  He was supervising a youth group voluteering at the water stop.  You can see that I'm fighting some unfavorable genetics.

              Return To Racing

Good Morning Peng's.  Hopefully we will get our run in today after yesterday's URD.  Still wet here.  Thinking about an evening HM in July that is fairly close by in Hoffman Estates.  Hope we can register late, since we are fair weather runners.  3 day weekend ahead, so have a great weekend.  Enjoy your runs.

                Nice pix Margo...

10 miles last night. My body only wanted to do 7. I am going to have to hydrate better now. I snuck a couple sips from some water sprinklers during the run.

Right as my watch beeped 8, I almost tripped on a roll of toilet paper. The teenagers were rolling some trees in my neighborhood.

                  Dad on the run.

Philli - That is a fantastic photo bomb! HAHAHA Love her expression.

AFM - I have started participation some of the myfitnesspal forums. Actually seems to have some pretty cool people over there and its a nice break from 95% of the conversations being about running. I found a pretty interesting thread talking about Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD and people posting the results they had with it. Soooo I picked it up lastnight at Wal-Mart and my wife and I are going to work through that, then do her Ripped in 30 DVD next. We will see how it goes.

Planning on catching some miles tonight if the weather permits, like a 50% chance of storms tonight so we will see.

Morning!  Run # 1 is done in the middle of the Tropical Storm Andrea.  We're only getting the right side so the wind, rain, etc., was not much.

                      Philie, love the pics!

                      Have a great day, all.

                          Barking Mad To Run

Since my Y membership allows me to use all the YMCAs in the San Antonio region, I've been 'exploring' each one and their surrounding areas.  Today I went to a Y that was about 5 miles from my house.  It opens at 5 a.m. on weekdays, so very convenient, since I have to be at work by 7: 30 a.m, so I was there shortly after it opened.   Got in 4.4 miles in a very nice neighborhood around the Y - except at one point I got a little 'lost' and ended up on a dead end road and had to turn around and run back up a GIANT hill, but it's all good.  At that time I had the locker room pretty much all to myself, nice private showers at the Y too, and a little snack bar where I could get some gatorade post-run, sweet.   This Y membership for me and Gail is really working out, because she likes to do the pool in the morning and the pool at this Y also opens at 5 a.m.     Only 10 more local area Y's for me to explore, and I'm having a blast doing it, running in all these different areas.

As long as there is not lightning, Gustav, a rain run can be really nice.  Especially in warm, humid weather.

Wow, Steph, June 25th,  that is a long school year. Kids in San Antonio are already out, starting this week.   I tried water skiing once too.  Gail is really good at it.  Me, not so much...I collided with a pelican.  Even when I don't run I have adventures, lol.  Enjoy your run and walk later!

Congrats on the miles this morning, Bin, sounds like you are doing better than yesterday.  Good luck with your hydration system.

                            Safe trip, Awood!

Darn that lady, Margo, she obscured your Great Legs! Wink  Second photo made up for it, though! Joking  And, young lady, you are doing great with your battling the unfavorable genetics...you hottie you...Big grin     Nice capture by your DH of that lady!  Have fun with your miles today if you decide to run.

3 day weekend?  Is it a holiday in Chicago, Jerry?  Good luck with the upcoming HM, if you decide to do it.

Right as my watch beeped 8, I almost tripped on a roll of toilet paper.  OK, Dan, that made me laugh...maybe it's not just me..maybe it's Texas... Wink    Congrats on your 10!   Yeah, you better start carrying a water belt or something, doing those miles in this heat now that we are having, supposed to be pretty close to 100 degrees for a high everywhere in Texas all next week!

Hope your weather behaves for you, Jimmy!

Congrats on getting out there and getting your miles in, Damaris.  Glad you are getting the right side instead of the wrong side!

                            Zelanie

Morning, pens!  I posted yesterday, but I am going down to once-a-week physical therapy and up to 5 mile runs!  I might make the social run tonight even, except that I have a late meeting so I don't know if I will be able to.

Gustav- What I heard about post-PT runs is that with fatigued muscles my form is more likely to break down.  But since I've wanted to build up miles, I've counted the PT days as "rest days" since I only run my warmup while I'm there.

Steph- June 25th, yikes.  Hang in there!

                              Bin- Nice run!

Awood- Glad you are getting the miles in.

Margo- That picture is hilarious!  You need that camera with the "remove photobomb" feature.  You, on the other hand, look great.  Congrats!

                              Jerry- Enjoy your weekend!

Dan- Good thing you didn't fall, or you'd have the distinction of having fallen over something that not even Scotty Dog has tripped on!

Jimmy- Hope the weather cooperates for you.

D- Earning that middle name, as usual.

Scotty- How fun checking out the runs from all the different Ys! Smile

Baconista- Thanks for the perspective.  Sometimes I feel a bit frustrated because my "normal" run, pre-injury, was in the 6-8 range, and of course I did a LR and a MLR every week that were longer than that.  I'm still at about half the mileage that I was averaging earlier in the year.

                              Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!  I'm dragging again today -- hoping that next week even though I'll be working, getting up early, and staying up late, that I can get some rest.  Wow, even reading that sentence, it looks like wishful thinking!  But I'm taking tomorrow off to wash clothes and pack, so that'll be good.  Chorus practice tonight!

Gustav -- hope you get some miles in today!!

steph -- laughing at your definition of lazy-ish!!

                                Bin -- woo-hoo for your 8!!

                                Awood -- safe travels!!

Phillie -- wow, that woman is taking no prisoners!!

                                Jerryb -- have a good 3-day weekend!!

Dan -- tripping on toilet paper, that's an unusual one!!

                                jblack -- enjoy the video!!

Docket -- glad the tropical storm isn't too bad!!

scotty -- glad your Y is working for you!!  I think I'll let my gym membership lapse instead of renewing in August -- I just don't use it enough to justify the $.

Zelanie -- good news from your PT!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.
