Queen of 3rd Place

Some of you may know this, but it was news to me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_J._Hicks Hicks won the 1904 Olympic marathon, along the way his coaches gave him a brandy and strychnine cocktail. It wasn't enough to revive him, so he was given a second dose of strychnine and went on to win. I think I'll pass on this particular cocktail. Arla

      Holy crap! Shocked

Getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to

remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air.

I prefer the absinthe, almond extract, and Diet Dr Pepper combo myself.

"Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, 'In this world, Elwood, you must be' - she always called me Elwood - 'In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.'  Well, for years I was smart.  I recommend pleasant."

Where do you find absinthe? I have seen recipes for making it online, but it looks like a lot of work. I'm curious about it, though.

I don't know if REAl absinthe is available in the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe I had what was purported to be absinthe in spain a few years ago. I didn't trip or anything.

It was actually a joke, K Clowning around --Gatorade has always been my drink of choice while running. Having said that, I think there is only one absinthe distributor in the US at this point http://www.drinklucid.com/lucid_home.cfm. There has been some weird legal wrangling about the legality of absinthe and how you define absinthe, blah, blah, blah.... So don't go online and buy some if you are planning on running for the Senate or PTA president or whatever.

Phew! Yeah, I don't think it's something I would ever buy--beer and wine are my beverages of choice with the occasional margarita or mojito thrown in for variety. Though I'd not be averse to trying absinthe, were it ever offered. The history and recent rebirth in popularity is pretty interesting. k
