Question about climbs (Read 228 times)

For those that strictly stay under ther MAF heart rate, how do you deal with trail runs with long steep climbs? Even walking I can't keep my HR under MAF on a number of climbs on the trails I run (e.g. gaining 1,200 feet in ~1.5 miles). If I am walking, I don't worry about staying under MAF...but I am curious what others do. Maybe I just not very fit?

There may be situations where at first you simply can't control the climbs. Just do your best and over time, you will start to get the climbs under control. It took me a while to master the "wog" and now I can generally keep my heart rate lower by wogging the steeps compared to walking, with more benefit.

        Wog?

Yup - I should have elaborated - it is a very slow jog with short, choppy steps, probably slower than you can easily walk.
