Low HR Training

Looking for an inexpensive, dependable HR monitor (Read 30 times)

I'm looking for an inexpensive, dependable monitor, preferably under $100.  I don't need anything fancy.  My Garmin 310xt  works fine for all my other needs, and I don't have a smart phone to utilize.

The chest strap for my Garmin can't be tightened up enough and it fluctuates wildly (ie 132 to 202 in a second for no reason), so I am constantly having to readjust it to try and get it to read accurately.

I purchased a Polar FT7, and although it's accurate and the chest strap is comfortable, the alarm is so quiet it makes it virtually worthless and I constantly have to check to see where my HR is.  Tedious and a PITA for LRs.

    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Leslie,  I'm currently using an old Garmin for outside and a Polar strap for indoors, I have no problems, so no help from me. I think Damaris (DocketRocket) uses a wrist monitor of some kind. So you might want to google or amazon wrist monitors as a possibility. Good luck.

My Garmin's readings are always off since the chest strap can't be tightened sufficiently; for example, it goes from 132 to 202 in a split second for no apparent reason. phrazle

Hey Leslie - I just bought this for my use with my Peleton bike.

Came with some good recommendations. It arrives tomorrow so I can let you know my thoughts.

Quick update - unit worked great. dowloaded an app to wake it and it immediately synced to my peleton.

              Well worth the $29 IMO

A little update: the device performed really well. downloaded an app to wake it up, and after that, it started syncing with my peleton right away.
