I continue to witness subtle but amazing progress.
Since MAF seems to be working for me, I revisited the 180 equation.
When I started I gave the benefit of the doubt in the LESS conservative direction so as to end up with the higher MAF ceiling.
This time I went MORE conservative which lowered my ceiling by 10 beats.
Even running 10 beats lower, I am exerting on the bike and trail quite a bit more than before. Given that I just started, I find the progress AMAZING.
Lesson #1: Respect the RHR.
Last week I ran 2 hours in 85F temps which caused my RHR to climb 10 beats.
I declared "Two days off" and moved my spin cycle into an air conditioned room for any hot days!
Lesson #2: Baby Steps.
We have a rule in Hang Gliding, only ONE new variable per flight.
I ran for two years barefoot in the woods. I still do some of my running barefoot and no more than minimalist sneaks.
MAF has me running on tracks in order to measure things. (One new variable)
I ran barefoot yesterday thinking nothing of it but ....
THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE between running barefoot in the woods and on a track.
Much to my surprise, I have a 1" diameter blood blister on the ball of my left foot.
More time off and reflection.
