Slow and Steady
I was trying Maffetone's waist-to-hips ratio but frankly, I don't have any confidence that I'm measuring in the exact same place every time, or even if I'm measuring in the right place to begin with! So it seems not very helpful for me to do that.

Just measure the waist at the bellybutton and you'll be good to go. The tape measure won't lie. Even if I'm hair off here and there, I can tell the difference between a 43" waist and a 36". I've lost body fat if that's the case. I might be in reality, 22% or 18%, but just want to have a starting point to relate to, measure the same way every time as best as possible, and use the same calculator. Good enough.
How much do you suck in, how much do you pull the tape tight? I find that I can easily swing an inch one way or the other with minor fluctuations in tape tension and stomach tautness!
Do the same thing every time. Suck in, don't sink in. But I do recommend relaxing. There will be fluctuations anyway. On occasion, you might be bloated because you ate something that turns you into a zeppelin, but you're just looking for a simple trend downward. Same with the weight. I vary within 1-2 pounds everyday it seems. Salt and water and how late I ate, and how I early I got up. Right now, my weight yo-yos between 173-175. It used to be 191-193. At one time it was 230-232, and even earlier than that, 16-18 pounds (depending on poopie pants). And before that, I was weightless, without fluctuation, floating in between lives in my own personal What Dreams May Come.
Have a good weekend, Eric!
How the rest of you doing?

I am down to 93.6 Kg (after starting at 108.6 on Jan 1st).
This is the end of my first 12 week cycle of MAF. About to start my next 12 week cycle with the goal of getting to 82Kg by the end of it.
Trevi, I am jealous of that type of movement although it looks a little dangerous... usually they say loose it fast gain it back fast... Regardless you must be loving it. I would. Eric I felt exactly like you in the beginning, but now after doing it a while, I agree totally with Jimmi that it becomes very consistent for relative comparison with your own measurements, although I am using that little measuring device in the beginning of this post that puts a consistent amount of spring pressure on it so that helps remove one item of variability... Update: For me even with marathon training miles I am staying almost static but one key item is it is not static or going up

Hey Alex, I am sooo worried about loosing it too fast. I am only running for an hour and 10 (roughly) 4 times per week. I would love to run more but I keep worrying about dropping too quick. I have decided to keep going with MAF only for the next 12 weeks as my pace is picking up (slowly) and I feel great.
Maybe when I reach 85(ish)Kg I wont have to worry too much and just keep on running....
But this forum is such a great inspiration too... Thank you everyone...
Progress progress. Cool.
I've been off the wagon for a bit ans will return some results next week. This marathon had my focus. Now its time to refocus on getting that bf down.

Well, I just got back from a week on the coast. And well, I tend to eat in restaurants when on vacation. I stepped on the scale a few days ago and my weight was 178+. Two days later, I'm back down to 174 range. Why? Salt. High salt on vacation. Normal to low at home. Waist is still what it was before vacation. I sure can retain water!
Back in the saddle.
Biggest measured vs calc'd to date and with weight going down.
Great work C-R I am dreaming of that body fat %, must feel good...
So I just realized this whole time I had entered 10cm greater in the height in the calculator so my body fat percentage was about 1% lower than it really is... Well it was nice while it lasted. I thought I did not look as good as this chart was telling me my withings scale says 3% higher ... Regardless I am still heading the right direction...
Great work, Norm. Looking more like Ed Whitlock every day!
The body fat is dropping, ALex.
Keep going!
still plateaued on weight, but body fat is shrinking, slowly

Finally off the plateau. My body decided it wasn't in famine and has let go of some more fat.
(I just made that up---sounds good)
