Trestle Valley Marathon Race Report (Read 206 times)

Well here goes my vague attempt at a race report. First off it was awesome Big grin, besides the fact that we had to run into the wind (15-25 mph) for the first half. Because we had to run into the wind for the first half I was able to keep to my game plan and not run fast at the beginning and save something for the hill at mile 22-23. My plan was to run between 8:20-8:00 mile pace for the first half and as the miles went by I was able to stay pretty steady and although I fluctuated I did just that ran strong steady miles for the first half. After I saw and passed mile marker 13 I started the picking up the pace and started to average a 7:30-7:45 mile pace. This was helped by the fact that I was able to see someone in front of me and tried to slowly creep up on the runner. The hill at mile 22-23 was like nothing I saw it approaching and looked at it like it was a hill I go up for most of my long runs and both of my 20milers. So I was able to play it smart and attack it with a strong steady pace (7:38) and not try to fly up the hill. After the hill it was a nice easy 3 miles with the wind, that we had to run into previously, and by this time I was able to catch up to the person and we ran the next two miles together picking up the pace as we went. At the last mile marker (25) I saw that I was going to make my goal of 3:30.00 so I thought to pick up the pace and just see what I had left and run like I stole something the last 1.2 miles had a split of 8:02. Crossed the finish with my hands in the air showing #1 not that I took first but that this was my first and I did it I finished. After that my body did what was expected and pretty much punish me for putting it through that. Dead I can’t wait till October when I get to run another and this time there will be more people. Awesome... sounds like you had excellent pacing. I think that's one of the major challenges with a 1st.
Fantastic. Way work. Great run. I will be channelling you on 5/11 at around 07:00...

            still alive

Hey, RunPD. Way to go. I ran the half there last year. I found it rather bleak, though. Nice small race but you're kind of out there in the middle of no where all alone. The valley is beautiful though. Anyway, are you referring to the Twin Cities this October? I'll be coming back there for another try. Last year was brutally hot. Cheers!

Yup the next big one is the Twin Cities, looking to really imporove if the weather this year is better. Last I ran a 14 miler and was a bit warm. When it gets closer we will have to meet up.
