Who's training for what now? (Read 614 times)

Go Pre!

Looks like due to costs I will stay local and run the Toronto International Marathon in mid October. Coming off the last marathon and getting back into it, It's already only 15 weeks away!
Great! I'm sure you'll find yourself feeling much better prepared for your 2nd one. Keep going after that, as time and $$ allow, and you'll have all the provinces(or is it states?) in no time! The training for Ms goes much faster when you don't have to back down to the lower mileages. Doing long run after long run has really kept me motivated big time, and I hope you enjoy it too! I can't recomend it enough! As for me, due to limited $$ for traveling, also, I'm attempting my 1st 50k trail run in a few weeks - the Tahoe Rim Trail 50k. I did a 22 mile training, all trail run this past weekend, and was pleasaantly surprised how quickly the time went by. What I really worry about for the Tahoe one is the major vertical climbs, and going up to some decent altitudes of 8,000 and 9,000 feet several times. See here: http://www.tahoemtnmilers.org/trt50/course_descr.html I also need to prepare my first Drop bag, and be prepared to be alone out there at night, in case i don't finish in the alloted 14 hours. Kinda scary.

      Go Pre!

Wow Landy, that's serious! I am both interested and fearing trying some long trail races. After I get a few marathons under my belt I am sure to give one a try though. Ihear they're quite addictive! D
I'm currently training for the Marathon 2 Marathon on October 13th.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Marine Corp Marathon, Oct 28. HooRah..... Big grin Big grin
hmmmm right now I'm trying to recover from a slight injury. When I get back to training, I'll be training for Lehigh river Marathon in Sep, Steamtown in Oct and Philly in Nov.

I am doing the San Francisco Marathon July 29. At least I hope I can. I've been battling hip pain and today it moved to my low back...I can barely stand up straight. I don't knowwhat to do...I have airfare, hotel and race registration paid for already. I'm too stubborn to quit even if it takes me 5 hours.

I have my next marathon at Lake Kawaguchi at the end of November. I look forward to cold weather! The race course is around the perimeter of the lake with a gorgeous view of Mt. Fuji. and the falling autumn leaves. After the race, we get to enjoy the onsen, hot springs, for free and have a hot bowl of miso soup with vegetables. It's so hot and humid here that I've been cooling down by swimming at the pool and have two ocean swim races lined up, 1.5k July 7th, 2.5k Aug 12th. Then I have a long distance 127k triathlon at Sado Island on September 2nd. The run for this is just 20k. I am interested in trail running too. I can imagine doing 30k on a trail, but 50k that's amazing -trails2run. My friend just finished the Lake Saloma Ultra Marathon 100k race in Hokkaido. He said it was really tough and he almost gave up. His time was 12hr 6min, amazing!

next race SHONAN MARATHON nov 3rd, 2012, OSAKA MARATHON nov 25th, i am aiming for nyc!

Hi Lifesabeach: It sounds like you have an injury. I think you need to find a specialist and rest. I had a situation where I could hardly train for a marathon I entered because of a knee injury. I was in the process of getting treatment, but my knee wasn't healed completely yet. I was scared to tell the sensei about the marathon because I thought he would talk me out of going to the marathon. Then I had a dream that I ran the marathon and I didn't have any pain at the end of the race. I told this dream to the sensei and he said "it's time for you to go out and run again, you should go do a marathon and have a good time." I was really surprised at his response. Then he said "just run as far as you can, and I am here for you if you get injured again." So anyway, I did a few 8-10k runs several weeks before the marathon, and just one 20k run two weeks before the race. I hardly trained at all. Like you, I had my hotel booked, transportation arranged and took off from work, so I was determined to go to the marathon no matter what. My plan was just to go out have fun and run the race. If I couldn't finish or had to walk, then that would be fine. I decided to run without my watch so that I wouldn't pressure myself about my marathon time. I ran the 42k, one 5k interval at a time, breaking it down into chunks so that I wasn't overwhelmed. What's funny is that my marathon time ended up being the exact same time as my first marathon. I felt an incredible outburst of emotion when I crossed the finish line and had tears running down my face. I was so happy that my sensei encouraged me to run that race. To me, every race is special and I always learn something about myself. This marathon is the same one that I will do again in November at Lake Kawaguchi. It is a race that is very sentimental to me in my heart!

brioche, Thanks for sharing your story. Smile I am currently training for my 1st marathon. I just got over an IT Band injury this spring and now this week my hip/groin is giving me problems. I have all of these goals I want to accomplish before and durring the marathon. I need to remind myself not to worry about my miles per week, how fast I ran each work out; I need to take it one day at a time.
thank you so much for sharing Brioche. That was very encouraging. I am considering taking a week off...or maybe a bit more. I ran the last marathon with the hip pain so I know I can do it. I just wanna stay healthy and I already reached my BQ goal so this next marathon will be just for fun. I've already been telling myself that I have permission to walk and go slow if I need to. Smile

Life'sA...do take the time to rest a bit. Some things just aren;t mind over matter. Good luck, enjoy your downtime, and happy healing. You have enough endurance the rest will not hurt your time for July 29...thinkof it as a loooooong taper Smile Dave
Hey Guys- Just saw that this group existed. I just signed up for the Richmond Marathon. This will be marathon #12 and state #10. I am in the process of getting my base back up and trying to get some of this weight off that I have put on over the past 3 years and get serious with the marathon running again.
