    Mornin' everyone.

    Monday’s magnificent workouts:

RunnerKSA (4.3 TM miles to avoid Twocat rule violation)

Tramps (10.5 trail miles with a trip, a leap, and a roll, and skid marks on the shirt but no other damage)

BerthaSlayer (1 mile along the riverfront on rest day)

    Holly (50 pool widths - 1,250 yards)

Deeze (Yoga, pilates, 1,100m swim, 11 min pool running, 1 mile dong walking - whew!)

C-R (5 trail miles ‘cause it was so nice in Germany)

Pfriese (quick 6 miles around the park)

    Mike (12 steam-burning miles)

Tet (Dry, uneventful morning 5 miles, and sunny, shade-avoiding return 5er)

Good save on the trip and roll, Tramps. I’m glad the only damage was to your shirt.

Which way did you go after work, Dave - ice cream or gym?

That’s a lot of garden cross-training, Tammy. How nice that Bella keeps checking on you on your walks.

What did you do to offend that goose, Holly?

Fatozzig, here is the recipe for the Hashed Brussels sprouts. I didn't have black mustard seeds, so I used poppy seeds and they were good (and they look good against the green of the BS). And I went heavy on the lemon juice at the finish (used the juice of a whole lemon), and liked it a scootch more lemony. Sounds like you and the Hub did some good work in the kitchen over the weekend.

That’s a heck of a workout routine without running, Deeze.

Looks like you’re having a great trip, C-R. Thanks for the great pics.

    Welcome home, Pfriese.

Sorry about the butt-chewing, Mike. Still got those resumes going out?

I’m glad you got the TM fixed in time to put it away for the season, Evanflein.

We had a good half marathon race committee meeting last night. This year's beneficiary is committed to bringing in a total of over $110,000 (entry fees and sponsorship dollars), which would take the race to having donated over $1million in the 12 years since we started this adventure. We'd like that.

I went 6.5 RW miles in 39° temps with windage this morning. I thought I could beat the rain, and I was half right - it didn't start till I was just into mile 4. Is it a TC rule violation if my workout starts out dry? It was a nice easy rain, except when the wind was blowing it into my face. It felt like I was working too hard for the lackluster pace I achieved, so I have to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Gotta go - Have a greta Tuesday!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Beautiful spring morning in middle Tennessee-   outside for 3.3 before work

Out there running since dinosaurs roamed the earth

      Tramps

Wow, that race is doing well, Jay.

Humid and heading to 80F today.  I think that humidity was part of what sucked the energy out of me today.  Sluggish right out of the gate for an EZ 6-miler.

        Be safe. Be kind.

I stopped at the gym on the way home from work yesterday. It is the last thing I want to do but I almost always feel really good afterwards and I am better than 50/50 at driving past "The Twist" and continuing on to Planet Fitness. Where apparently, the first Monday of the month is "Pizza Monday", so I got a couple slices on the way out for my dinner.

I was distracted by a work problem this morning and left for a run without my Garmin.  I ran a known 4-mile route but I have no idea what my pace was. Not that it matters.

My back was sore today. I have skipped my core workout & back stretches the past few weeks. I guess I better get back on that.  It takes about 5 minutes a set and it is a combination of stuff I have got from PT's and chiropractors over the years.  Seems to work if I do 2-3 sets on as many days as I can force myself to get down on the floor.

Well, time to get back to work I guess.

I have been instructed to stay away from Bertha for the time being to concentrate on some speedwork (tomorrow). So today was a fairly relaxed 6.2 mile easy run. I cannot decide if I miss her.

            Have a wonderful Tuesday.

Dave, the 2nd Tuesday at PF is also "Bagel Tuesday" in the AM. Just sayin'...

Haven't checked in here for a few days. Ran 4 easy on the local trail on Saturday, ran 6 at the monthly club run around the lake on Sunday morning, then rode 12 miles in the late afternoon after completing the sale of my oldest bike the day after posting it on Craigslist. Now that was easy, and I've got another to sell on the next good-weather weekend!

I'll try to get back and catch up on everyone's weekend accomplishments, but I'm sure they were copious and successful!

On a tastier subject, I just got done baking a batch of chocolate chip cookies using our new favorite recipe, which calls for white flour as well as "white whole wheat" flour. I've had trouble finding the white whole wheat in the bulk section at Whole Foods, Fresh Thyme, etc. so just used regular wheat flour. But last week I managed to find it by the bag and bought 5 lbs of it. Looking at it when I was baking today, it's not really pure white and doesn't look all that different from the regular wheat flour that we've been using. Anyone have any comments from experience? We've been running into more recipes that call for it and wonder what the differences are between the two types, if any.

By the way, the cookies are great!! Drop over any time for a sample.

                  Hey all.

Thats really great Jay. A nice milestone and to think of how many peoples lives that touched.

This is forum always makes me hungry with the cooking baking recipes. Glad I'm running more regularly.

Ummm. Where did my pics go? Now I recall why I don't use photobucket anymore. Any suggestions? I have some more unless people are bored of seeing. A nice 5 on the hillsides today. Legs are starting to feel the many days in a row but it's a good feeling.

                  Cheers.

Norm, I noticed your pictures were gone. I use Photobucket too, but don't post pictures much. Don't recall any disappearing before. And yes, I'd love to see more!

That's a lot of dollars raised, Jay. And I wonder if I could disguise that Brussels sprout recipe enough to get DH to try it. He likens them to little green balls of death.

Doug, we use Robin Hood White Whole Wheat flour, recommended by Consumer Reports and Cook's Country. It's more expensive than other flours, but I believe worth it. We actually mix the white whole wheat and the all-purpose flours together in a big Tupperware container that holds 10 lbs of flour. I have a separate container of all-purpose for things that prefer that kind (like gravies, lighter baked things, etc).

Hey, we could get up into the low 50's today! I brought shorts to run in later! Will still do the long sleeved shirt, but it's one that the sleeves push up easily if needed. Looking forward to my run later!!

Beautiful morning 11 mile run along the river trails. Wild plums have finished blooming & the redbuds are now at peak.

                        Paul

Erika, so glad that you have been getting nicer weather to run in. Just wish the trails were clear for you to run on.  Our snow is all gone except the piles by the parking lots. The city crews plow the trails but we really don't have many of them, not even 5 miles.

C-R, yes I'd love to see more castle pictures. I use picturetrail with no problem.  I toured a few castles on a youth hostel tour of Europe in 1974. I remember one called Castle Hellbrunn that was built with trick fountains throughout the grounds. We even stayed at a hostel in a castle in Werfen, Austria.  It was actually where scenes for the film "Where Eagles Dare" was filmed. Most of the castle was shut off from visitors, so no exploring.  I think our bunks were in the servants quarters.  Man, I distinctly remember the long walk up a huge hill (in the rain!) to get there with our backpacks on!

CR--that cat you saw in Germany is cute but five pics of it seems like a lot.

I forgot to encourage MikeE to piss off his boss before Mike's next race.  Being chewed out seems to be a secret to additional speed.

                            Speaking of which...Mike,

                            1. what's a "strength" run?  I'm not familiar with that term. Looks like LT/cruise intervals.  The same or something different?
                            2. You seem to have very specific training goals (a.k.a. a plan!).  Is this your own creation or are you basically following a published plan?  Coach?
                            3. No long runs more than 16?  Is that because you're prone to injuries? If so, I'm surprised you do all that speed work--including fast long runs--without issue.
                            4. Tired of people asking you so many questions?

Yeah, I'm starting to think about actually training. Pfitz (more or less) used to be my go to and may be again.  I'm just log stalking to try and learn something.

                            Be safe. Be kind.

                            dg.

I love the castle pictures too, C-R!

Not much time to comment...  though will say my DXDH used to Hate Brussels sprouts,  but now he loves them.   He all by himself found something that sounded good, & he's hooked.

thanks for the recipes Jay!   how did you come up with that incredibly wonderful combination?   don't suppose you have the salad recipe handy?

glad both you & the cat were please w/the cat scan, but I'm sorry for the unexplained lackluster....

                              back's ok?

I meant to take today off & more or less did, but the birdie siren song this morning was irresistible, along with the 55F. & very slight drizzle.  a 3.5 mile bird bath. Smile

glad your fall didn't do any damage Tramps.

                              ack.  stopping now.

Hello all. New to the group.

In a past life (1982-1985)  I ran junior high and high school cross country. In 2011 I was 223 pounds and had the crazy idea to take up running to get back into shape. I did a pretty good job of it. By 2013 my weight got down to 150 pounds, I did a 20:00 5k and a 1:37 half marathon. In the middle of 2013 I had a blood clot in the leg from a trip to China and haven't been able to recover my running form. Although I run some still (like about 500 miles per year), it just hasn't been the same. Every time I get a role something else goes wrong. Pulled muscles, broke a hand running into the mailbox in the dark, got laid off my job, etc.

I plan on making 2017 my comeback year. I need to lose about 15 pounds as I have gotten up to 170. My goal is to get back to 20 MPW. Right now I can run in the 3-4 mile range. I plan to slowly build. I am also getting back to focusing on core exercise to try to avoid the little injuries.

Yesterday - 1 hour of tennis plus 2 fastish mile at a 7:50 pace.

Today - I am getting a new Garmin 235. I might just have to test it out with 2-3 miles.
