For those of you who are new, this is the 40/40 thread, for people who are over 40 years old who run 40 miles/week or more. We give Free Passes to those who come really close or try really hard...

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."
Thanks Holly!!!

I was carefully monitoring my left hamstring all week. I definitely felt it on Monday, skipped Tuesday, it was better on Wednesday and much worse on Thursday, skipped Friday. On Saturday we had this small local 6hr race, on a 2 mile loop in the park near the ocean. I thought I'd give it a try, since it's an easy flat course and pace will be slow, so it should not aggravate my hamstring too much. Plus, it's a timed race, so no DNFs and if I start feeling pain I will just stop. It was a warm day with a high of 87F and people started bailing out after reaching 20 mile and 26.2 mile marks and everyone slowed down, so I ended up winning the whole thing with just 34 miles, which was of course a surprise. Normally you need to be over 40 miles to win.
