4/25 (Monday) - two mile round trip to Mary's Falls awaiting more Boston (Read 34 times)

two mile round trip down to Mary's Falls

Last Friday's Earth Day makes me think of it but it probably has more to do with all the springtime snow pack and glacial melt, and recent rains too, but the lake is about a foot higher than when I last got to do it two weeks ago.

    .

In the meantime, there would be nothing wrong with some more Boston reports,

especially if with comments from those who have been there in the past too.

      Hiya!

Hats off to Mari on whatever you did to save the day on your race.  And congrats to you and Holly and Tom (should we be encouraging you, however??) on your races.

Good getting in that run despite all the challenges, E.  Is that it before GB or you doing one more?

I'm fighting a head cold.  It's winning, I think.  Funny, was getting good sleep in Boston but still felt a little tired.  Now I know why.  It's one of those that just presses into your head--hope your headache doesn't turn into this thing, Mike.  Finally it is beginning to break up, so I sound like a 3 pack a day smoker.

I've mentioned a running chum who pushes her DD with cerebral palsy in races and puts on an annual 5K that raises money for the elementary school DD attends and Special Equestrians.  You might remember last year me telling you about a little guy with a gait disorder whose mom had his stroller for him, but he decided to do the entire race on his feet.  He was back this year and did it again.  Great little guy.  Gave a little speech at the start for us as well.  My running team supports the race....and we also pretty much cleaned up the awards.  Lots of fun Saturday.

Sunday 14 miles, and beautiful views on the bridge.  Sun coming up on one side while the moon was shining on the other.  I've been missing that!   I think running helps cycle a cold through me faster.

Managed to make DH some killer burritos Saturday for supper + (he likes to bring left overs to work for lunch).

I'd also recommend a book I just finished: When Breath Becomes Air.    Not a running book.  Just 200 pages, plus an intro and an epilogue.

twocat, for the exception that proves the rule, I'd request allowing running in the rain when the temp is ABOVE a certain number as it's most welcome then.

      grins,

Mike E you are hereby ordered not to do any running until the sun shines - under penalty of law!  Fessing up just mitigates things. Otherwise you would have had to wait for 15 minutes of sunshine in addition.

buehrle I am wondering if there are planets as well as countries embedded in your physique?

evanflein thank you for the Leon Creek Trail tip! My DW and I will look for it when we head to San Antonio later this week.

SteveP forget dogs and creeks, you need to post more food porn!

My leg may finally be at the point where I can run on it again without fearing a relapse! There was no stiffness in the whatever it is in the outside of my lower leg area. That was the last sore point so maybe this is finally it. We will see tomorrow. On less happy news after some time without a mouse catch this morning there was one. I am going to have to somehow find the hole they are using to come into the house. I suspect this was a newcomer to my abode.

          Good Morning!

I was glad to see Robin's CrowdRise update in my email this morning and see how fantastic her fundraising, both individually and her team as a whole, did for Melanoma at the Boston Marathon.

Quads were pretty sore yesterday but feeling much better today. I will probably get in an easy run tomorrow at some point.

never fails, and I should know better, but we have a frost warning tonight. We have had such amazing weather so, like most everyone else around here, I got anxious to garden and even put in my peppers and 8 tomato plants. Guess I'll be covering them up tonight. everything else out there right now can tolerate a short frost snap though.

There's a sign at the mouse airport with directions to your place.  It's described as a B&B with an ironic name.

Tammy - keep that frost away!  I'm planning on putting in the rest of my garden (onions, carrots, lettuce, kale, spinach, tomatoes, and peppers) tonight after work, since we are scheduled for two days of rain starting tomorrow.

No run for me today, just 20 minutes or so of light weights and core.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

3.04 miles on the River Trail and then a few sets of a core routine.  Had a stressful software update to install yesterday.  It went smoothly and today I am feeling a bit more normal again.

Aamos, thanks for the book recommendation.  Lots of holds on many copies of that book at the library, but I am willing to wait.  It sounds intriguing.

I had a great time in SF.  Would like to go back someday, it's beautiful and so interesting.  I checked off most of the items on my list, but missed eating Mexican in the Mission district and seeing the murals.  I did get to do several key touristy things - cable car, Ghirardelli, Coit tower, cycled across the Golden Gate bridge, up the Marin headlands a bit, down to Sausalito, ferry back to SF.  Had dim sum in Chinatown, and a flight of chowders and sourdough bread at a really good restaurant, yumm, some wine tasting in Oakland, a 7 mile run in the sun on Bay Farm Island (near Alameda).  Yes.  It was a great mini vacation!  Oh, I missed Golden Gate Park too.  So some things left for next time!

Since I had two low mileage weeks in a row, I am hoping to bump up to 30 miles this week.

Oh, and mariposai - you rock girl!!  Glad the Half marathon got off smoothly after all.  You continue to inspire me with all you do for your community.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

RCG, I hope the PT can resolve your issues.  evan, I trust you are enjoying/did enjoy San Antonio.  I enjoyed my couple of visits quite a few years ago.  A highlight for me was a 5 mile, early morning, run on the riverwalk with my daughter.  mari, good job with being RD for 2 races.  Also, congrats on 1st in AG in your 5K.  Steve, yesterday's chicken dinner looks delicious.

Nice long runs for Tammy (wise not to go further), Mike (with headache), Holly, evan, and Aamos.

Yesterday, I walked 4 miles at a 13:48 pace.  This morning, it was in the mid 40s and there was a light wind.  I ran 2 miles at a 10:50 pace.  Later, I walked 2 miles at a 13:12 pace.  At my doctor's appointment today, all my restrictions were lifted, with the exception of swimming which I don't do anyway.  My vision is not 20/20 but it does meet the legal requirements to drive legally.  I'll have to wait about 6 weeks before my eyes are stabilized enough that I can get new glasses but with my drugstore reading glasses, I can read and do crossword puzzles.  I'm happy that I can finally do just about anything I want.

A good day and good runs for all.

                    TomS

Aamos, Your saturday does sound fun.

I was chomping at the bit to till our garden, Tammy. We have a rain/snow mix in our forecast. blech.

Dad's still in the hospital and his attitude is starting to wane. I understand. He was hoping to be released. One Dr. says surgery. Another says it's not necessary.
