Sunday Sunny Master Runs and Workouts (Read 379 times)

Here's hoping the new dawn brings a bit of perspective and sunshine to Tim. Today was the last MLR of any consequence. 10 miles at MP being the plan. I ended up with 10.1 H&H miles at 8:29 min/mile pace. A good run and the legs felt good. Finally yesterday and last night I started to feel those phantom leg aches and pains that Taper time is known for. I was beginning to think I wasn't going to get any of those on this plan. I guess that's a good thing. Bill

"Some are the strong, silent type. You can't put your finger on exactly what it is they bring to the table until you run without them and then you realize that their steadiness fills a hole that leaks energy in their absence." - Kristin Armstrong

Great run Bill, Yep completely normal that you are feeling that way in the taper. Means you will be ready. Slept in today...Finishing my second expresso and oatmeal with straweberries before going out for a 21.k run. I felt liked a caged bear last night, I so wanted to run so much, so fast and so far...so I guess the taper is working...problem is I am so so hungry..tempation is everywhere to just everything in sight... Hopefully I dont stop at all the donut shops along the way... Take care Tall

Nice run, Bill! You must be getting psyched these days. 14-mile hillypalooza run in the rain this morning. Warm out so the rain and wind actually felt kind of nice.

        Be safe. Be kind.

Good morning Bill, as I woke up this morning I tried to be more positive. But I am still numb and shocked from the whole experience. I think tomorrow morning is when it will hit me the most...I should be going to my job that I loved and worked hard at. I hear it said to make finding a new job a full time job. But around here that will be hard to do, and I am going to consider moving as Ribs pointed out. I really have nothing keeping me here family wise or anything. Bill, I will Email you ok. Tall, we will talk. I guess I spaced it and didn't post my run yesterday. 16 mile wave run. On my mile repeats Ribs told me I could run these quicker so I did....he recommended dropping my paces by 15 seconds. 16 miles - 2:07:28 - 7:58 overall pace. 3 MP miles at 7:35 pace 3 1/2 MP miles at 7:15 pace. With easy miles in between each repeat. I nailed all these paces within a second or two, and this run felt good and was a stress relieve for me. Surpised I could even run considering no sleep and drinking waaaay too much the night before, and I actually ran badly hung over (yes I know drinking doesn't solve anything, ok) Thanks everyone for your kind words. Running wise....I feel all dressed up, with no where to go Tim

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

Nice running out there guys 7.8 miles of hiking yesterday and 7.1 miles of rainy running today at 7:56 pace. Keep running Tim
Tapering here......6.25 yesterday @ 8:03 pace; 7.65 today, 8:33 pace. Nice runs, everybody......Stay strong, Tim Walt
21k ez done, average pace 4:40. The wind was stoopid...ugh...I swore many times. Right foot is not good, must be some PF so will ice... I need some pancakes... Tall

15.6 mile wave run for me this morning, with miles 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 at 8:42, 8:17, 8:15, 8:10, 8:44 (I was aiming at 8:45 for the 1st and last and 8:15 for the middle ones). The speaker at our church today was the founder of xxxchurch.com – a Christian website that aims to help those who struggle with pornography. Kind of interesting to go to church and talk about porn… Good speaker, though. Heading out now to take DD to a roller skating birthday party. She wants me to skate with her, to keep her from falling down. Should be interesting.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Nice runs and tapering everybody... (((((Tim))))) Tall, healing vibes for your foot!!! maybe a pancake compress. so so behind. i should make that my avatar. if i don't use the flemish bunny's toes..... SRL, Frankie... wow. mary, it was nice to see you here!! I'm glad your run went so well. Sue, I clapped today at the geese. baby geese season, so it really was nice to have something to keep the attack geese at bay! ... what's best practice for skunk clapping? recommended clearance? upwind, downwind... ? Wink. Thank you I think I will follow your advice. mtl instead of dl. One downside to gu. When I dug for my phone the other day I found one had opened inside my purse. Tongue I don't even have a garmin! sheesh. I suspect a strong OCD factor in all that data gathering & recording. I've made 2 run attempts since Tuesdays major blunder. Not as good as I'd hoped but maybe better than I really had any right to expect. Yesterday was 4.96 miles, hr 74/164/173, av.pace 10:09, max 9:10. cadence 93/97, stride length average 2' 9". eww. Want to know all the min. ave. & max temp? Today was beautiful! 41F & sunny. Stoopid wind the only downside. Lots of baby geese. 6.4 miles, 10:11 av. pace 9:00 max, ... ahr 165, max 173. I won't type all the rest again.. But it will be a good way for me to objectively see how the healing is progressing, I had one mile where the stride length was 2" longer. And when I got home I promptly put that in my log. ;- ]. mta, Holly, an interesting day for you. How are you supposed to keep her from falling?? I'd like a video of this.
warm blue sky day...66F by the end of run...beautiful...picked a spot with lots of tree cover and wore a tank. Decided to be more ambitious today and do 1/2 mile run with walks inbetween. It just feels better this way than slogging thru 3 miles straight at a yucky pace. And during the walks I get to assess how I feel, getting dizzy? nope, keep going then. 6 x 0.5 mile with 0.2 mile walk breaks run portions were: 11:33, 10:35, 11:15 (hill), 10:00, 10:10, 9:09 That last one was fun.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

Just popping in to say "Hey". Hi DeeBeeGeeBee! What'd I miss? What happened on Tuesday? Hope you are all right. Breargel, Sounds like you are in the groove! So cool that MrsReger and DeeGee get to hang out. I wish I could go back to Michgan and see all the Michganitians. Fabulous folks. No run for me today, nothing but x-cleaning. It's a dreary, chilly, rainy day in SE Virginia. W&M graduates today. Wet, but happy parents, I'm sure. My niece is graduating here and then starting up at VCU in the fall. No "real job" so why not keep going to school? Yikes.

"Anytime you see the word "inflation" in the news, replace it with "record-breaking corporate profits" and you'll get what's happening."

9 miles for me this high school graduation morning. Evryothrday's GF is graduating HS today. It's also his birthday. A beautiful cool morning with little wind here in OK. Good runs to all today.

Many people have provided positive and helpful ideas for Tim to consider. Of course there is some shock and grief now, but Tim I hope you start getting your plan together soon. And don't even consider not going to Seattle. You must go, if only to clear your head and get some positive reinforcement. Our club run starts at 7 am and this morning it was brisk and cool, about 60 degrees. As Bill well knows, when you get a day like that in FL or TX you try to make the most of it, so I did my first 20-miler PS. Not a very fast time, 3:14, or about 9:44 but I enjoyed it, it was a big mental hurdle for me in my comeback and I was able to experiment a bit with nutrition so we could discuss it. For openers, I made sure to eat a good breakfast, which I generally don't do before my morming run, so today it was oatmeal with raisins. Also, our course offers water and pretty well-diluted Gatorade at about every 2 miles on the course and I took two small cups from early in my run, almost to the end. I am guessing about 6 oz per stop. I tried to stay under 9:40's for the entire run and was pretty successful at that, but just to see how I would do with no fuel, I took my last Gatorade at 14.6 miles. I was just fine through 18 with this, but then the depletion caught up with me and my final two miles were 10:35 and 10:13. What I learned from this is the lag time between when you take some Gatorade and how long you get some energy from it. OR, I could simply have been exhausted and it wasn't the lack of Gatorade at all. I don't know, but this gives me some ideas for future runs. In any case the first one is done, a run I didn't expect to do until the fall. Of course my belief is that in future runs of this distance if I drink in just this way, I will be stronger longer, and others feel that it is pointless because if I had taken something at say 16 or 17 I could have finished stronger, but now I have a benchmark to work from. Today is the Saint's birthday and Spare Tire will be here later on and we'll have a cookout. Beautiful day in N. TX. Spareribs

Nice run today Ribs. Happy Birthday to The Saint. Sounds like you have a very nice day planned for her. Happy Tapering Bill! This morning, I got up early (6:15 is early for me!) and took my dogs for a 3.5 mile run. We should hit the upper 90's today, so it was nice to be in that early morning cool air and marvel at just how quiet and peaceful it is where I live. I'm taking my son and a friend of his from his football team to a nice hiking place today. It's all shaded, near a creek and waterfall, so it'll be nice and cool there. His buddy is also an only child so I'm sure they'll enjoy hanging out today. Then we'll come back to our place where I'm sure they'll play some football. speaking of football - my son had a game yesterday. He scored the only two touchdowns for their team, so he was happy with that, although they still lost 13-12. Didn't get either of the extra points. But a good game - a real nail biter! Tim - sounds like you had a good mind clearing run also. Lots of choices to make but I'm optimistic that your future is bright. And I wouldn't write off Seattle just yet either. You've already registered, put the deposit down on the house . . . have you already purchased your flights? If so, then you've pretty much covered it all finance wise. I won't hesitate for a minute to chip in extra to cover your share of food expenses, the balance on the house, etc. Don't give up on that idea just yet, k? Have a good day everyone!
