RunnerKSA put in 3.4 as she stayed low and slow for the show. She follows that up with an additional two. Then brags about meeting RA people face to face!! I'm jealous up here.

Do you have Greek heritage in your bloodline Steve?

    Nope...just a slob.

Jlynne warms up to a 5.45 mile run. She did squat with a kettle and was sore till noon.

Runr_nut bears down for 3.5 cheek to cheek miles.

Buehrle strolls into the day for 2 miles with the gang.

Fatozzig gets us all warm and fuzzy.

TammyinGP is making a list and checking it twice.

Mr. (Heavy on the Mr.) Tom White runs for 40 min in the pool with the shoes. Thant's a lot of determination.

Pfriese sets out for 6 in the park.

Spacityrunner rounds up the little squirts and herding them through the packet pick up process. I love the positive energy at packet pick ups.

Joe618 is all to do over his DIL at Purdue. The ol' boy is looking into a road trip.

Holly is getting mixed news about her dads. it ain't easy bud.

Surly bill checks in through the smoke and the tears.

    MikeE is in and out!

Mariposai has sunshine on her shoulder for 5.

BioGuy celebrates a well received presentation by pounding on the treadmill for 2.6.

I bothers me that I'm the sane on in the relationship. DW and I had to get the Thanksgiving shopping done Friday night. Fine. I picked up stuff to make popping reindeer food too. We had to go to a specific store because they had the brand of turkeys on sale. Fine. Let's get another one. Except those ones are not on sale. The birds will be restocked on Saturday AM. We're going to spend an additional two hours minimum and $10.00 in gas to save $3.50 on a dead bird because them damn carcass is on sale. Seriously..If we're ever in a situation together and I'm the stable one........get out ASAP.

Got up a bit before 5 and went to the hotel gym. Duda few weights but prefer being outside. The conference was at National Harbor, a site on the Maryland side of the Potomac River filled with shops, restaurants, a casino, and hotels. I headed out in the dark trying to find the bike trail that runs over the river into Virginia alongside the beltway. Missed the turn but found it eventually and had a nice 7.6.

Alas dw gave me a frosty reception when I called this morning. We are meeting later to have an early Thanksgiving with our youngest daughter who flew in but is staying at her husband’s parents house which is much closer to everyone else she wants to visit with while she’s here. The conversation has put me in a grumpy attitude and drug me down from the high I was in from delivering a good presentation yesterday. Oh well.

        Tailwinds!

SteveP - you are just frankly amazing and wonderful - have I mentioned that before?  I count myself blessed that I have had the joy of meeting you in real life.

{{{bioguy}}} - yup, hang in there

          {{{Tomwhite}}} - get better, Tom.

Digestive difficulties had me nervous this morning, so only did 3.1 miles close to home.  Then off to the grocery for  the extras for DH (who wants a complete turkey dinner at home so he gets leftovers, even though we are doing Thanksgiving elsewhere.)

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Good morning folks. Thanks for the recap Steve. And I don't understand why you won't drive 50 miles to save 10 cents a pound on a turkey? Twice? It's the shopper's thought process! Didn't Benjamin Franklin say "a penny saved is a penny earned?"

Gee Tom - I'm so sorry you're still not feeling well. Did you get a flu shot?

Hang in there Bioguy. You didn't call your DW 5:00 AM did you? Maybe she just wasn't awake yet!

Holly, you're an amazing wife to cook a complete Thanksgiving dinner when you're eating somewhere else! I hope your DH appreciates all you do for him, though probably not, right?

Where have Tramps and Twocat been lately?

Hey! I got a treadmill this morning! 6 miles at just around 11:00/mile (with a couple of walk/water/wipe off sweat breaks) then finished with 30 minutes of weights and core. I'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner for DS#1, DIL and 3 grandsons, DIL's mother, DS#2 and his girlfriend and DS#2's friend and his girlfriend. How do I get roped into this every year is beyond me. Off to the grocery store before it turns into a zoo.

We finished the "House of Cards" series on Netflix last night. I'd be curious to see if anyone else watched it and what you thought.

Good luck to anyone racing this weekend.

            BTY

              Good morning, All!

Wow, what a busy week.  My wife and I spent Monday-Tuesday in western NYS - have any of you ever been to Letchworth State Park, south of Rochester?   It's about a 4 hour ride for us and wow was it ever worth the ride!   600 foot high ravine that stretches for miles along the Genesee River, 3 impressive waterfalls (two of which we actually witnessed and video'ed, and lots of great places to hike and take it all in.  So glad we were able to to do that to celebrate 27 years.  USA Today readers recently voted it America's favorite State Park.  I am not surprised!

So my workout calendar looks like this was a cutback week - only made it to the gym a couple of times and to the pool a couple of times including this morning at 0h-seven hundred hours.  Wednesday night's workout was 10 repeats of breast stroke (50 yards) and butterfly (25 yards) and then four 50 yard crawl repeats at what I can only call "Strider effort" because I don't know what terminology to use for swimming at that effort level.  I always loved finishing off a running workout with striders, because they make you feel fast without tiring you out.  Same thing in the pool.  Smile  Today I did a total of 1800 yards, consisting of a 450 yard warmup, then 10 x100 yard IM (Butterfly/backstroke/breaststroke/crawl) in 3:00 each (between 1:36 and 1:38 for the swim portion and 1:24 - 1:22 for the rest portion) and then a cool down of 350 yards alternating 50 yards backstroke / 50 yards breast stroke, so that I could make it past 1.0 miles (old habits die hard), and practice the transition from backstroke to breast stroke.  If I'm ever in a close race, my turns are so sloppy they are going to cost me.

I say it "looks like" a cutback week, because my swimming mileage is down from 4.4 miles last week to about 2 this week, but I shoveled wet snow for two hours yesterday morning and an hour last night, so I don't really feel like I cut back on anything.  Driving through the neighborhood this morning, with 6" of snow on the ground on November 17, I was reminded of one of the first winters we were in this home, maybe 15 years ago - we got snow on about this date, and the back yard, which is shaded by our neighbor's row of evergreens, was snow covered all winter long.    That has only happened that one time.

Celebrating my Mom's 85th birthday this afternoon at a somewhat local establishment in the hinterlands here in upstate NY.  Between the seven of us kids, our spouses, and our children and grandchildren there will be about 30 people. I have organized it, so if I tell you that I can't wait for this to be over, I think you know what I mean by that.  In the nicest way possible, I can't wait for it to be over.  Smile

              Henrun

2.2 miles this morning before 3.5 hours of choral group rehearsal this afternoon. Marj is in New Hampshire celebrating GD 1’sbirthday. Tomorrow we head to Salem, Ma. to celebrate my GD’s birthday. Wonderful to have grandkids nearby.

BTY- hope you get some rest when weekend over.

Holly- we’re at my DS’s for Thanksgiving. They’re not doing turkey, so we bought a turkey for ourselves.

                Tom White- get better.

                  Morning Masters!!

8.1 slippery Sole Sister miles for me this morning!! Longest run I've done in a long time and it felt great!! Even better with one of my friends joining us for the first 3  - she had a total mastectomy one month ago and this was her first run back. So happy to have her with us!!

Heading to Portsmouth,NH for a surprise overnight birthday celebration for a friend turning 60!! Her sisters planned a girls night away, but she thinks she is just going away with her daughter for the night - can't wait to see her expression and share their joy!!

Have a wonderful weekend my friends!!

                    Mornin' everyone.

                    Steve: BUT IT's ON SALE!!!

                    Do get better, Tom White.

I hope the frost thaws, Bioguy.

Holly - so you'll be having Thanksgiving twice??

BTY, a niece got married at the lodge at Letchworth about 7 Augusts ago - beautiful setting. Happy 85th to your mom.

The only problem with the conference I went to yesterday (outside of the 2.5 hour drive each way) is that I have so many reports and web links to dig into for more info related to several projects I'm working on. It's all good stuff, but holy moley, who has time to read and digest all this?

I got in 2.2 miles on the small indoor track before our racewalking training session this morning. A newbie came for her second session, so I spent most of the rest of the time working with her, and she made some nice progress. Then I stopped at Trader Joe's to buy a small brined bird and other necessary and desired foodstuffs.

                    Have a greta Saturday.

                    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Thanks, Steve and good morning Masters.   Joe was discussed during our run!  SrLopez slept in and didn't show, so Jen, my daughter and I had a nice chatty girls' run and then a great breakfast.  I'll see them later at packet pickup. Robert is running Monkey on a very injured (PF) foot to not miss his 10th running.   He has actually done a triple Monkey where he started at midnight and ran 3 back to back Monkeys a few years ago.  Compete insanity.

We ran 3.5 greenway miles with some low fog and pretty scenery.  it was 32 to start, but no wind.  I wear a lot of clothes....   Good Vandy basketball game last night, but I'm losing my voice from this cold/sinus thing- whatever it is.

Out there running since dinosaurs roamed the earth

Hey y'all, yesterday was a 5 mile run at lunch.  Easy feeling pace.  After work drove home for the weekend....and the week.  Gonna take some time off.  This morning was our "big" local 10k.  I missed it last year due to a business trip, first time since we moved here in '09.  The race is called the Dam Bridge Run.  It goes over the TVA era Wilson dam (which oddly this year had an abundance of bird poop on it), runs along the TVA property (and a section of the fitness trail), then re-crosses the Tennessee River on the Patton Island Bridge (it's been re-named...but I don't like the new name so I'm being a curmudgeon), then you run back to the conference center on Veteran's Drive (rolling, but with a net downhill).  Not thrilled with the time (not unhappy either): 46:24.  Good enough for 27th OA (of 264 starters), and Grand Master winner.

Steve, funny--I'd have thought we'd have run into each other in the hallway(s) at least.  Have had similar discussions with my DW.  Those optimization equations I've worked with for decades can get me in trouble.

                        BTY, happy anniversary!

Heading to Huntsville shortly.  DW volunteered us to pick up a visiting priest who is flying in.  Have a great day everyone!

Well, I am not actually doing a whole Thanksgiving meal.  We are going to DS's GF's parents for Thanksgiving, and I am bringing a ham, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and a pumpkin pie.  For our home, I will just do a turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and an apple and a pumpkin pie.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

                          Trails are hard!

Happy Saturday afternoon, all. Just finished final camp closing and now waiting in line to return cable gear. Long line—someone behind me just said don’t we all have anything better to do?

Holly. I think I would have any number of things that I wouldn’t agree with your DH, but not having leftovers IS awful. But you’re still a saint

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

A half marathon that includes 2 mountains. Who's brilliant idea was that!!!     My official finish time is 2:58:10.7. My garmin says 13.14 miles in 2:56:33. Less than 2 minutes for a potty stop. And I did wash my hands!!! How awesome is that!!!! There really are no words to explain how I feel after todays race. I never expected to finish. I never expected to finish under 3:30, no less under 3. And if I even thought about that kind of finish time I knew I would drop dead at the end. And I didn't!!!  Time to go soak in some epsom salts.

                              Trails Rock!

                              Joe618

Steve, thanks for the fun recap...hope that brings you as much fun as it does for me to read daily.    Still wanting to hear more about the response you received to the Treadmill Repair Letter.

The only problem with the conference I went to yesterday (outside of the 2.5 hour drive each way) is that I have so many reports and web links to dig into for more info related to several projects I'm working on. Strangely, Steve's Excessively Long Turkey Purchase Journey and Jay's Overwhelmed By Useful Information Phenomenon are linked, in my mind.   In both cases, we have so much information available (be it retail or community) and little way to sort out the truly useful from the mere cluttering.   And we get the "deer in the headlights" lock up.    Not easy.   Very real.   And a fact of digital life.

Karen, so fun you got to run with Jen this morning!!   Thanks for passing along the hello to Knifey!!   She's a gem.   Hope Robert's PF clears up...he'll tough it through Monkey but hope he doesn't make the PF too much worse.

I was out early in "balmy" mid-30s for 12+ miles through our biggest local city park.   I'm laying out the application of the Hanson's training program in my training for Boston in April.   Even though the 18 week countdown doesn't start until Monday, December 10, I'm already working on the pace/distance emphasis which Hanson method is known for.   I've only focused on distance for the last 5+ years.   It's fascinating and I'm very interested to see how it goes.

Rock on, folks...enjoy reading all your stuff, I really do.
