Tramps

We're not really big on Valentine's Day but if you are, have a good one!

I half-watched the opening ceremonies Friday while catching up on some reading.  The spouting whales were pretty cool; the Viagra moment, not so much.  (You’ve got to feel bad for the folks who worked on that.)  I wasn’t surprised to see Gretzky get the honor but was surprised there was no flaming puck to light the torch; that would have been cool. (Remember the archer in, I think, LA?)

Anyhoo…rest day yesterday and 20 @ 8:31 today, but there were a couple of untimed breaks in there to get fluids and to talk to a biker who came by.  Snowbanks (and thus absolutely no shoulder) kept me on my road which is clear enough now to run without screw shoes.  I was beat by mile 18, though.  I should probably have used a gel.  Still, given my winter running break this week, I was satisfied with this one.

    Be safe. Be kind.

      Very nice, Tramps!

I'm coming back from yet another injury, so did only 8 easy today.  9 weeks from the marathon and I'm trying not to panic.

      I Can Go The Distance

IRC for my LR this morning; 54F, sunny and no wind. I did 16 miles in 2:39:14 (9:57/mi pace). Since I don't have a recent marathon to work off of, I can only go by what all the charts say. Based on my recent 5 and 10K times, they all say that I can do a 4 hr. marathon or about 9-9:10 pace. I think that is rather fast considering this is my first marathon in 30 yrs. and it's a hilly course but we'll see. Anyway, even though I was not trying to run at MP pace my last few miles were:

        13: 9:23

        14: 9:50

        15: 9:38

        16: 9:27

Tramps: Great run in not so great conditons.

WRFB: Hope everything continues to go well leading up to the marathon.

          Tramps.. very nice 20!

Lou... why on earth would you panic? Look at me, I'm calm.

In 2 months you can go from couch to BQ. Besides, Erika and I need more wounded warriors for our Boston group.

          Think Hoyts Smile

Finished 17 miles with 15 of it very hilly in 2:51:30 (10:05 pace, AHR 150).

Since this is the end of the second week running and the one month arthroscopy anniversary, I felt good to have finished it even if the pace was 10:05. Oh.. the best part, my knee felt fine after the run.  I had a real lack of leg strength from doing no hills in ages. Both legs were equally sore, but even that has gone away now.  Good workout I think.

          40+5 pushups before the run.

Rest day for me, I am reserving my legs for tonight's birthday/dance party. This 50th party for my friend promise to be a lot of fun.

In most Latino countries today is "Friendship and Love" day. So, I received a few calls from back home and I called my auntie in Spain, my son in Poland, my papa in Paraguay. I think the long distance phone company is very happy to have me as a customer today Smile

Sweet 20 miler tramps. Were the roads safe?

WRFB, sorry to hear about your injury. How is PDR doing? I sure miss her around here.

8 easy paced miles w/DW we did 2 mile warm up then 6 w/club followed by a bring a covered dish brunch, very nice.  Park roads were very good today

Good long runs Tramps, Bruce & Perch

WRFB easy does it,  you'll get there healthy & do well, I'm confident

Mariposai your voice sure put in a lot of miles today

              Happy Valentine's Day!

Courage ! Do one brave thing today...then run like hell.

Up at 5:00 am to get to the kiddo's first hockey game of the day---very exciting and FAST game---including a penalty shot that favored the kiddo's team and they made it. I ran 21 miles after the game with the first 10 at 8:23 pace and then 9.5 miles  at 7:30-32 pace and the rest easy. Very happy---helps to have no snow and 30º (windy tho')

The kiddo and Mr CNYrunner were melting chocolate for chocolate dipped strawberries (for me and Super Granny). Perfect post run recovery food I say! Mr. CNYrunner popped the question on this date 19 years ago and I said yes----nary a regret. HVD.

Hockey game two is at 5:30---laundry folding and maybe a little nap in between.

9 weeks still gives you time Lou as long as you can heal up. Your base is still quite strong.

                Nice runs and rests all

I don't know why they had this year's V-Day 5K Dash on Saturday instead of today but, with 1,575 pink-and-red-attired divas and only 757 guys, I did it anyway, . . . I mean 'cause it's on such a barefoot friendly course over at Green Lake.

                  .

Not that she's about ten minutes faster than me nowdays having anything to do with it but missed francesca. However, a pair of pink and black striped stockings sure reminded me of tammy who used to run around Green Lake too and a frantic sprint to the finish to catch up with a diaphanous set of heart-shaped butterfly wings turned out for naught.

                  .

                  Renee the dog

40 mph gusts and a running partner (Renee) who refused to leave the house convinced me to go to Plan B.  I'm hoping to clock a total of 13 miles scattered here and there between some Chinese New Year stuff (we don't do much) and Valentines Day with the kids.

6 mi done (2 were walking miles with the kids!) and 1 was even outdoors now that the sun is out and melting some of the ice.  Too many looky-loos on the one street I was using which is the most removed from things, so I gave up and did some TM work.  Heading back outside in a bit to get 7 more in -- heading to the sand.

WRFB, don't panic. I wish you continued good fortune in your ramp up!

                      Tramps – nice run!

                      WRFB – what Perch said…

Bruce – nice run for you as well!

Perch – you have made an amazing recovery!

Mariposai – have fun dancing tonight!

CNYrunner – nice 21 for you today!  You deserve a nap.

Sarge – your running club sounds like a lot of fun.

                      Tet – non-what?  Hmmm

Nono – sometimes you just have too many things working against your run.  In spite of the heat, I think it is so much easier to train for a fall marathon than a spring one.

Well, I got my first 20-miler of the cycle in, but it wasn’t pretty.  It was 10° when I set out, bundled up in assorted layers, with intentions of doing 5-6 mile loops in my neighborhood, but Erika was right:  it was just too easy to bail on the outside part when I stopped by my house after the second loop.  That TM in the comfort of the garage won out for the second half, switching back and forth between Godzilla and The Hot Chick.

20 miles: 10.6 miles outside @ 9:58 and 9.4 miles on the TM @ 10:00, not including several walking breaks and potty/water/gel stops.

Erika – I, too, am falling into the pattern of too many stops during my runs.  Part of the problem is that the cold air makes me have to pee more often (am I the only one that gets that?) and also the extra layers seem to need adjusting a lot.  Hopefully in two weeks, when I do my next 20-miler, the river trail will be clear and I can do an out-and-back with fewer interruptions.

This week I set a new weekly mileage PR – 63.7 miles.  I’m not too fast, but I can go a long way……

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

wow!!  great long runs out there today!!

karin - love your post-run treats!!  i'm about to indulge in pretzels with hershey kiss and m&m melted on top - i made them myself tho before my run!!

holly - you are anything but slow -- you truly amaze me!!

lou - hope you're recovery goes well!!

                        tramps, bruce, perch awesome runs!

posai- have fun -- i love a good dance party!!

me - well, first sorry for my negative post friday - i really was feeling awful after that  double shift but had a nice afternoon nap then woke up to a beautiful bouqet of flowers from hubby and one of the boys went out pick up chinese food for dinner so it was all ok after that

yesterday still didnt feel quite up to a run but did get in a bikram yoga class

today - 10.6 miles by my lonesome since i decided to sleep in this morning and make breakfast for the menfolk instead of going to the running group's hosted run ......... slower than i would have liked - took me 1:54:47 but i have my 1/2 marathon at Hampton Beach next week so didnt want to  push too hard either

now time to stretch then get ready for church

have a wonderful sunday evening friends!!

                        Trails are hard!

Happy Sunday.  Enjoying the Olympics and watching some of the less hyped sports.  Too bad you have to wait 4 years to see biathlon.  And the US women's team is in a tight game against China (5-0 after one)

My foot is feeling some better, so tried the TM at the gym.  Managed 3.2 in about 35 minutes and then another 20 minutes on the elliptical.  Max and I added another 1.5 by the lake to finish the day.  Not the 6 that I was supposed to do, but not bad.

Tramps--was this multiple lap up and down the road run?  That could almost rank with TM work for boredom.

Very nice long runs for CNY, BC, Perch, Nono, and Holly.  and good eights for Sarge and WRFB (I guess I missed the injury--hope it's getting better)

mari--didn't know you knew the meaning of rest .

DW and I celebrated VD with a very nice breakfast after my workout.  Whatever calories I took off then went right back on with a huge plate of spicy shredded pork hash, eggs, and hashbrowns.  Yum.  And DW is making my favorite stew for dinner.  I think I must not eat for a lot of the coming week

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

                          Half Fanatic #36

                            Tet,

my friend Nancy and I were thinking of running the 5K in Green Lake yesterday in the 100+ team division...but couldn't do it afterall and I ended up being quite sick all day . Back on my feet and on the trail today to see if the legs can take me for 50K tomorrow. I shall try...come out to Bothel 7am and run with me the Call of the wild!!

                              Here I am!

It has been a struggle to keep on running through these monster storms.  I had to miss or cut short a couple runs this week, but ended up with a nice 18 miler this morning for a total of 40 miles for the week.  Another 2-5 inches tomorrow into Tuesday.  Just enough to make it messy and slippery again.  Sigh. The YakTrax are getting a lot of use this year.

Next Sunday we've volunteered to help our running club. They are supporting the first Sunday session for folks training for the Frederick Marathon.  I've got 19 miles planned, so if they need someone really slow for some of the group, I can run with them for the first 10 miles and then keep going to finish up my own run.

Not much going on around here for Valentine's Day.  As my sweetie says, every day is Valentine's Day for us, so we don't need no stinkin' roses.  I guess that's pretty romantic

It's another beautiful day in SoCal!  Still recovering from knee injury so did 1600 yards in outdoor pool today.  Lovely!
