Right, Tramps - Walkin’ Blues is a great Robert Johnson song, but I had heard the Clapton version a few days ago and it stuck with me. Here’s a nice Roy Rogers (not that one) version too, if you like a little slide.

Sorry about the long commute and side effects, Stumpy.

I hope you or someone gets/helps that dog, Tammy. Lots of ideas here on how to effect the capture (or, in Tet's case, to use a loose dog as an excuse to get out for a workout).

Sorry about the sleeplessness, Fatozzig. As Holly said, we all have days like that (me too). You’ve been saying for a long time that there is too much to do by too few people in too short a time. This is just proof of that.

I’m glad your achillies is behaving, Surly Bill.

Congrats on your Moab Trail Marathon, Wildchild. Gorgeous photos! Looks like there might be a meet-up at the Moab marathon in '18.

Sorry about the boss piling on the work before your get-away, Mike.

Tonight, we're going to see/hear Dan Brown at the Portsmouth Music Hall talk about writing, and about his new novel. It is part of the "Writers On A New England Stage" series that has brought in some excellent writers from all fields. The last one we saw was Mario Batali, who talked about cooking, restaurants, and his new cookbook. He's a very funny guy, and it was a joyful evening.

I went 5.8 RW miles in 26°, under clear skies with the high-sitting moon helping to light the way. But I was still glad to have my headlamp so I could avoid the dead raccoon in the road.   I had on cold weather gear (tights, mittens, windbreaker, knit cap) this morning, and was glad to have it.

    Have a greta Thursday!

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

    Tramps

I figured you knew that already, Jay  Funny, the only Roy Rogers CD I own is the one with that song on it.

Yuck. Nasty cold rain this morning. No riding for me; just some exercises.

Serious (for us) cold front coming through the next couple of days. Those Richmond runners will need to bundle up: upper 20s at the start; upper 30s by 11 am.  I'm so jealous.   For my first marathon there, it was 76F by noon.

      Be safe. Be kind.

Apparently last week I passed my annual mileage target without noticing...

It’s disappointing to be somewhere nice and have your run suck, but suck it did! It was so warm and humid here in Boca even early this morning. The route the hotel gave out wasn’t great. Sometimes I wonder who chooses the hotel map routes. Plus- it was way short, so I had to add on. My poor sleep may be catching up with me but it felt like I was dehydrated, which I didn’t think I was. Anyway, somehow I struggled through 5.5 and managed to get myself to the conference breakfast almost on time.

Jay- your dead raccoon reminded me that at about mile 5 of the run there was a hideous dead possum face up right by the sidewalk. Yuck.

Out there running since dinosaurs roamed the earth

          Trails are hard!

First winter wear run of the year for me.  Just brought all that stuff down from the attic when the Halloween stuff went up.  Tonight I need to start swapping out the summer for winter in the drawers and get that up there, too.  Lake loop in same as Jay's 26°.  a little breezey coming back up the home stretch.  Met both my regular Goldens this morning--good thing I wore the tights with a pocket, so no disapproving looks from either Sophie or Blue.    Must have been feeling either frisky or cold, but 9:33 overall pace felt pretty easy.

            Glad everyone missed their roadkill.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

DD decided not to do the usual Thursday 5 @ 5 today as she has a target HM on Sunday, so I didn't bother setting my alarm. Woke up anyway and as I have a 10K race on Saturday thought 3 or 4 easy miles before work. Cold front had come through overnight and it was 53F with a noticeable north breeze making it feel cooler - about 20 degrees below the race temperature last Saturday. Not quite sure if it was because I was enjoying the conditions or whether I was running faster to keep warm but I started out at a 9:12 pace and got progressively faster. Finished up with 8 miles with splits of 9:12, 9:11, 8:46, 8:56, 8:45, 8:44, 8:27 & 8:18.

Hope I don't regret this morning's run on Saturday. The last 10K of this morning's run was quicker than my PR from the same race last year!

There was mention yesterday about odd-numbered race bibs. I've had odd numbers in each of my last 5 races, though only one was prime. My collection of race bibs since my first race in June 2015 now has 23 odd numbers and just 6 even numbers. Now that's odd!

              Started running at age 60.

              AG 60-64 PR - 5K 25:45, 10K 53:28, HM 1:57:39, Marathon 4:32:09

              AG 65-69 PR - 5K 26:11, HM 2:02:39, Marathon 5:04:47

Like Stumpy I wore my winter stuff fora 4.2 run in another IRC morning. Did take off my jacket  and gloves for most of the run as I warmed up.

Didn’t see any wildlife but did see a bunch of preschoolers from a a local day care center running up and down a small hill as I passed a local park.  Never too young to start enjoying outdoor exercise!

update on the stray dog: Dog and owner reunited! Owner was visiting her sister and dog got out of yard, so very unfamiliar with area, sights, sounds, etc.  Just glad it had a happy ending and not a tragic one considering this was a busy area of town/neighborhood and dog dodging traffic numerous times.

No run yesterday - absolute downpour almost all day.  Still raining today, but hoping it'll lighten up by late afternoon and that I can get out of office a bit early to get in a run before it's dark. I don't mind running in light rain, but the stuff we had yesterday is no good.

Off work tomorrow since it's a federal observation of Veteran's Day. I'll probably be refrigerator shopping. Our 12 yr refrig is showing signs of impending death, so need to start seeing what's out there before it completely dies. oh yay, early Christmas gift to us.

Apparently last week I passed my annual mileage target without noticing...

                    Very cool!

Yay for the happy reunion between lost dog and owner!

Mike - Have I told you yet that you need to find another job?

Carolyn - Moab is definitely the most gorgeous marathon I have run - stunning, but very tough!

For those of you that actually have tomorrow as a holiday, let me just say, I'm jealous and envious...

I was short on time this morning, so only got in 3 miles on the TM.  I am planning on/hoping to go to the Y after work for one of their 6pm classes.  I have mostly copped out on after-work workouts because by the end of the workday I am usually frazzled and tired and hungry, but today I am hoping to channel my inner After Work Workout Energy.  Wish me luck...

Oh, and if you're interested, here is the relive of my Sunday run.   Now that most of the port-o-potties are gone and the water fountains are closed, I had to double back twice to make bathroom stops.and get water.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Thats my last run before Chickamauga.

A co-worker who for years has been faster than me, he is far more talented, but lazy, is shooting for 1:35 there. That should be all the encouragement I need. Get ahead of him and stay there. Never been in a better situation to beat him head to head.

Not quite as bad as TC's track workout, but lots of looping!

I was going to run at lunch after the appliance repairman came to fix our washer, but he got here late and it's now way past lunch. So I guess this is rest day #4. Maybe tomorrow I'll get up and run or go to the gym.

Although, I did a set of a strength workout for runners. It was much like the core workout that I do (inconsistently) and it added squats & lunges.

Tammy - Great news about the dog!  I follow Humboldt Paws Cause on FB and it's amazing to me the hourly, daily reports of missing animals.

Posie - I sometimes wish The Hub ran.  It'd be nice to have something like that to do together.

Not much sleep again last night.  I ended up using socks at hand grenades to throw at the cats, even poor ole Zig.  Anyway, I didn't feel like getting up at 5:00 a.m. so I'll do my 30 min after work.  And from the looks of things, I'll be breaking 2Kitty's Cardinal Rule and running in the rain.  Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll decrease by 4:30/5:00 . . . .

Another chiro appt at which the cupping technique was used on ye ole butt area.  He didn't leave it in one spot, rather moved it around.  I could definitely tell when he was over "the spot."  He also wants me to start introducing some pressure to the area via a tennis or lacrosse ball, so we'll see how things go over the next week.

This guy cracks me up.  He was worried about me being embarrassed to have my butt bared to him.  Me: "A butt is a butt.  Everyone has one.  And if this works, I don't care what you do and don't see."

The things he's having me do ARE working.  Today I'm wearing slacks and am able to sit for periods of time without pain (so far).  Yippee!!  Last week I lasted 20 min max in the same pair of slacks.  Progress, my friends.  Slow and steady, but progress none the less.

                            Okay - Lunchtime is over.

Today was one of those strange runs. I brought my running gear to work but wasn't feeling that great. I debated until around 3PM and changed and reluctantly walked out the door for my run. I have no idea why, but what I thought would be a slow and sluggish run ended up being a 6 mile tempo run at a 7:54/mile pace. It's happened before where some of my better runs are on days I don't want to run at all or don't feel 100%. Go figure.

                              evanflein

Metalman, I've found that too. Although I just couldn't get out the door yesterday, I frequently find that the run I don't want to do the most ends up being one of my better runs. Always nice when that happens.

Go, Catwhoorg! You are ready, and you have a rabbit!

Holly, I find that a later in the day workout helps me leave the workday behind, and actually energizes me for the rest of the day/evening. Hope it works for you!

Leslie, good news on the improvement, bare butt and all. They're professionals, right? And if he hasn't seen a bare butt at this point in his career, there are other issues to consider.

Tammy, yay on the happy ending! And your rain yesterday was like our snow... I just couldn't deal with it.

RunnerKSA, I've had a few conferences in Boca Raton and have run there frequently. It can be very humid, any time of year or day it seems. Ick on the roadkill... You too, Jay, glad you missed the raccoon!

So, no run for me yesterday and I went to bed early. Must've needed it because I slept right through the night. Feel a bit better today, so that's good. It's snowing (again) here but I will get out for a run, even a short one. I don't think anything is plowed so the footing won't be great, but I'lls see what I can do. There's always a "make up run" opportunity on the treadmill at home. We head to Seattle tonight (1:20 a.m.) so I'm hoping the rain lets up there.
