Masters Running

The Friday Daily, 10.5.12 (Read 383 times)

    Mornin' all.

Tramps, years ago, I contacted the state and national Democratic and Republican parties and asked them all to permanently remove our address from their mailing lists. Most all have complied, and it helps. I don't mind the elections at all, but I do hate all the idiotic attack ads that assume that we voters have no intelligence at all. (I'm going to stop now, before I launch into a rant.)

"Bizarre" is a good way to describe the busted Batman.

Nice goal, Enke! Good luck, and have fun.

", you actually DON'T sell the cheapest generic Viagra on the internet????" Funniest line of the day, TW!

Congrats on the approved 5ers, Twocat! Keep up the good work!

Awake at 3 this morning, up at 4, out the door at 4:10. It was mild enough (60F) that I wore shorts instead of capris. It was also so foggy that you could almost reach out and grab it. I saw a fawn standing stock still on the opposite side of the road as I passed by. I think we surprised each other. I thought about stopping to see what would happen, but then thought I would be less interruptive if I just kept moving along, which is what I did. I wondered if that fawn had ever seen a human before? I'm sure I was its first racewalker sighting! Further along the way, I saw another runner with little flashing lights on his upper arms, and he reminded me of a certain butterfly and made me smile. I went 3.2 easy miles, and was all wet (fogsmacked) by the time I got back home. Nice start to the day.

Good luck to all of this weekend's racers, and for those of you who have it, enjoy the long weekend.

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

Morning Jay and all who follow,

had a Jay moment biking in to work - the fog had lifted, the clouds were this hazy impressionistic light blur and the sky above was clear. this lasted about 5 minutes until the sky just became clear.  sun is wonderful -  planning a RAL to celebrate

Election comment on:  is what percent of folks watched 90 minutes of a debate?  from the consensus at work, very few (i watched none, know who i'm voting for, so who cares)  Election comment off

Can't comment on yesterday, so hope everyone is doing well and the wounded are healing

      Good luck weekend racers!!!!

      Back on Stride

One side benefit of being retired and not around groups of people is that I haven't had a full-blown cold in several years. Well, my luck has run out and after an uncomfortable night I'm feeling pretty dragged out and punk while quickly going through kleenex Sad. And it's not like the old days when it was probably OK to work out while sick, so I'll be taking it easy over the weekend.

Yesterday, however, was great! Back in March we had a long, freaky warm spell when it hit 80 degrees almost 3 months before we usually see those temperatures. So I took my first long, summery road-bike ride out the rail-trail to one of our rural country towns where I "discovered" an incredible pie-baking place and had the best piece of pecan pie that I'd had in my life.

So with yesterday being warm and sunny, and looking like it might be one of the last such days, I bookended my biking season by repeating the March trip, right down to the pie for dessert! A great way to put a cap on it, although it was on the way back when I started to realize that my slightly scratchy throat might be leading to worse.

Have a good final working day of the week, everyone!

        Doug, Runnin' in Rochester, MI

3 easy miles this morning...took today off, will go back to work on Monday...I love weekends...

Looking for a place to Happen, making stops along the way - The Hip

Lyndenrunner, it is so great to see you regularly here again. How is your little daughter doing?

I was glad to read that Tramps is still checking on us here and there.

Hey, btw, we need a perchcreek update.

Rochrunner, you are going to have to bring that bike to the PNW one of these days. Great places to hike around here Smile

OrangeMat and Rosie, I hope you girls feel better soon.

            Go racers go.

Just two miles for me today to enjoy the crispy 30F weather we are having here.

Like Tetsujin said last night, we have a bad fire burning south of Omak. We know 2 people who lost their home and animals. The fire is going down south towards the mountains, which is good, but it is still scary.

Jay--we like being connected and involved; this has just gotten crazy...battleground state and all.

I'm waiting to hear Mari's verdict on the work ethics/generation question.  I'm not sure it's work ethic but I do see much more skepticism now among young people about whether hard work will actually pay off.  Given the economy and continuously growing inequality, they have a good point.

ETA: Mari we posted at the same time. Sorry to hear about your friends' fire loss.  Scary stuff.

Easy 5.1 miles today.  Much less humid, which as nice, but back into the 80s today.

Have a great weekend and good luck to the racers!

Tramps, congrats to Tribee on her swimming events, including AG award.  Tammy, your rant was appropriate.  Dave, I loved the link to the Batman story.  Twocat, great PT approved TM run and elliptical work out.  hopeful, nice picture of the dogs and the fall colors.

Last night, I did a local 5K.  I saw an awful lot of my running buddys.  It was about 70° and there was a wind.  It's a nice course except for the last .5+ mile where  it's a steady uphill slog.  According to my GPS, I finished in 27:44, the course was 3.03 miles long, and my pace was 9:09.  I was 2/3 in my AG (60+) (Also oldest in the race) and 43/54 OA.  I did a mile warmup and a mile cooldown.

A good day and good runs for all.

                  Thanks for the update mari.

Hope it's over by Autumn Leaf Time.

ARe you and Enki running or voluntering, or both?

There's apparently another fire now south of Seattle in Shelton too.

Might be affecting running down in dove-land.  I hope not.

Hey, doublekat - re your training inside yesterday because it was raining outside, are you still going over to Amsterdam for that possible world record?  What are you going to do if it's raining?  Maybe better to relish training in the rain in case that's what happens on race day and you're the only one trained for it. Good luck.

how are those pills doing Holly?

I heard that mountaineers use 'em too for high altitude energy.

I am volunteering next week, but hopefully I will get to run with mariposai at some point.  This is the driest summer I can recall out here (last 12 years), sorry to hear of more destruction out by Omak.

Posie - So sorry to hear about your friends. Undecided

We watched about an hour of the debate.  Like Marj, I  know who I'm voting for, so in that respect it didn't matter, but I did found it interesting, and I couldn't help but think again, as I have a lot lately, how incredibly, incredibly hard the responsibility of running a country is. I doubt many could even begin to comprehend the idea of doing so.  Our receptionist asked the other day of stress could cause gray hair.  I told her to go back and look at pictures of almost every president when he was getting sworn into office and four years later.

I've been so pooped lately, that Coach G 2 the V excused me from my 4 miles this morning.  Bless his heart!  As such, I drugged myself up last night and actually got 6 straight hours of sleep.  Woke up and peed (TMI?) and kicked Wilson out at 3:00, went back to sleep 'til right before the alarm went off at 5:00 (was gonna see how I felt), turned it off, and rolled back over for another hour and a half.  Haven't had that much sleep in ages!  Oh my, but it felt good. Approve

                          Hi guys...

Nothin much going on besides enjoying the cooler fall running weather.

Ran a marathon 2 weekends ago and the Half that Roch ran last weekend.

                          Still running everyday (780).

Yesterday's 10 miles of hills focussed on running hard up the hills and easy down to keep a constant pace.

That must have worked because today's much slower 12 miler was not as easy as anticipated!

Lows in the 30's are coming starting Sat nite!

                          Now where's that hat?

Cool fall weather here, too!  We got about an inch of snow overnight, both in the mountains and down in Denver, but it had mostly melted when I went out for a RAL.  First time I ran in long pants since May!   It was only 38° at noon.  I ran 6 trail miles in Cherry Creek State Park, and the prairie dogs are building traps for unsuspecting runners again.

I watched most of the debate.  I think the moderator should be allowed to turn off their microphones when their time is up.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

.  I think the moderator should be allowed to turn off their microphones when their time is up.
