Mr. Chip & Mizz Rizzo

Happy FRIDAY!! Big grin Last night I did two different ab workouts on the stability ball along with an upper body workout and then 1.5 miles on the treadmill. This morning I was out for 3 miles on legs that felt like they weighed a thousand pounds each. Of course with the temps dipping into the low teens I had to double up layers and put the yaktraks back on. Brinkley would not come when I called for him - so he missed out on the run. 10:59 avg pace Oh, and Mrhopeful actually tried to stop me from going out this morning. He said "I forbid you to go!" HA! He was trying to blame my headache the other day on running ....... Roll eyes Have a great day!

Last night I did a session of yoga, then after the kids went to bed, I hit the TM for another 2 miles. QUESTION for TM runners: How's your pace on the TM v. outside? I can't seem to run faster than an 11 min/mi on the thing, whereas outside, I can't seem to run as slow as an 11 min/mi. I'm Confused

      GOALS 2012: UNDECIDED

      GOALS 2011: LIVE!!!

Nice runs, ladies. As it turns out, the wind wasn't nearly as bad as predicted. Which means I was bundled up just a tad too much -- Erika would laugh at my layers, so I'll only admit that the balaclava was a bit much and came off pretty quickly. 12.1 miles, 1:46:24, 8:48/mi, AHR 144 (72% mhr) -- progression with the 1st five at about 9:20's and the last five at about 8:20's

I'm exactly the same way Nono .... I find it very difficult to run more than an 11 m/m on the treadmill. I do always have it set at 1% incline to help simulate outdoor running (or so they say). Last night I did make myself do one mile at 10 m/m pace and lived to tell about it. I also use this chart for the speed vs. incline differences: http://www.hillrunner.com/training/tmillchart.php

Morning folks and nice runs already too. I woke up at 4 AM and couldn't get back to sleep, so I headed out for a 5 miler at 5 AM---mileage and time symmetry I guess. We have Lou's wind here as it was 14º with 25 mph gusts. I was happy to be out there though and my legs continue to behave---no pain! We just got back from a few days in Upstate, NY visiting parents/grandparents. Hi Craneium! we even took in an Amerks game in Rochester. Looks like I have much to catch up on here. It's the last day of school break week and lots to do in the house too as well as 4 hockey games for the kiddo this weekend. Endless, but fun. Have a great day

Nono – I don’t know, I think I’m slower outside than on the TM, but that might just be until I get down out of the hilly part of the neighborhood. Also, I think my legs will settle into their lowest speed unless I actively push them to go faster, and on a TM I can set the speed. CNYrunner - no pain - Yay! Last night I did what would have been today’s lower body workout, so that my weekend LR wouldn’t be affected by any residual DOMS. 1.Alternating side lunges (20L, 20R), bench step-ups (20L, 20R). 2. Weighted squats (30), weighted ballet squats (30), split squats (20L, 20R). 3. Single leg bridges (30L, 30R), forward lunges (20L, 20R) I really love this workout, as it seems to target so many important muscles, yet isn’t so strenuous as to make me really sore the next day, just a little stiff. A good one for high mileage weeks. This morning’s workout: 3.25 easy paced miles on the TM, followed by dumbbell presses, flies, lying hammer curls, front raises, shoulder presses, and stability ball crunches. In explicably, today I had all the sproink I didn’t have yesterday, on a day when I didn’t need it. Go figure.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Good Morning everyone Smile LOL, my cycling buds are really talking smack to me about not being on our cycling team again this year - "Team X treme". I told them I am concentrating on running Marathons again this year. They want me on the team because I am one of the better cyclists in the area, especially helping the other team mates up hills because I weigh the least, and I can actually speed up going up hill, while others slow down. Mark, one of the other good riders on the team said to me the other day...."Hey, I hear your an inch or two shorter after running that much last year....I responded with - "Hey, I am standing taller than your beer belly fat ass, with your Lance Armstrong Wanna be Halloween costume on, that you wear Big grin". Then he said - " Do you know what they call old, run down runners.... cyclists!" I just laughed at him and said - "the only thing that runs on you is your mouth, and running to your fridge for another beer"..he said, ok what's your point, lol. I love my cycling and Triathlete buddies, but I am just doing something different this year again... they will just have to deal with it. 7.3 easy miles last night at 8:56 ave pace....ok, is that better Smile Boy is was cold out with below zero windchills...very windy out. First cold run outside since last winter. Karin, that is awesome news...no pain Smile Thanks for being supportive of me when I was injured and recovering too. I'm like Holly too on the treadmill speed. I think it's easier to run faster, because you can set the pace that you want ...then just run that fast. That's funny Mary when he said "I forbid you to go" Big grin. I imagine you were like...what eveeer, as you headed out. In a hurry, and will check back again later. TGIF TimBo SSGGTK

Tim.. I see Lance went back to cycling because he couldn't handle marathoning (or something like that.. or was it to raise more $ for LiveStrong?) He's in like 4th overall at Tour of California? Dry run for tomorrow's 20K race. It is the same temperature as it will be tomorrow (25 ° at the start). 2 mile warmup with Tory wearing jacket and track pants. Then dropped Tory, the jacket and pants off and ran in shorts and long sleeve tee (+gloves and hat) for 2 miles with the first mile at 7:30 goal pace which felt perfect. Then cooldown for a mile at 8:40. I can't ever remember feeling as ready for a race.. knocking on wood! 4 miles total in 34:47 (8:42 pace, AHR 150)

Hmm. Firstly, not all masters are Boomers. Wink. some of us are Gen-Xers - ya know, the ones the Boomers call Slackers? Big grin Anyway, I haven't checked in for a bit. Not much to report. Busy at work and I'm still not running. I'm getting closer I think but there is still some tenderness around the upper ankle. Weird that the shin actually feels fine - there's no pain - but I feel some tenderness just above the ankle when I try to jog. Traveling to Vegas next week for business and will try a jog there or maybe wait until I get back. That would make it a full month of no running. Still hitting the weights, cycling, occasional elliptical but am anxious to run. On the bright side, I've upped the weights in every exercise and feel stronger. On March 3rd, the Spaulding Rehab center just outside of Boston is having a free running clinic. There'll be a lot of product and service pitches but I'm going to check it out anyway. They'll have biomechanical analysis, osteopathic specialists, sports massage specialists and of course shoe vendors Roll eyes. Hopefully I'll get more out of it than just a sales pitch. Good runs all. And remember, a run is like a beer. There are no bad ones. Just some that are better than others.

Good morning gang. I can't wait to hear about the boomers' gathering that took place in Seattle last night. Envy Surprised. Tim, I am the "slow motion queen around here" so......send me your training plan during your build-up stage and I WILL make sure you DO NOT run fast Evil grin and injure yourself again. 8 hours of sleep did wonders to my whole being. 6 hours of crispy run this morning on rolling hills...not a soul around...just the sliver moon. The sun is gorgeous around here right now...I wish I could run during the day and not at pre-dawn...but work and family life makes it impossible for me to do that. Mary, thanks for the link on the TM grades. Twocat, thanks for keeping me up-to-date with your summaries...I know it is a lot of work...Proud of you as you are handling this no-running thing so well. Cranium, how is your dad. Hi Carolyn, Theresa and dg...

thanks boomer goddess mary. Someone keeps reminding me I'm not one either but I was happy to be welcomed as one at CR. Once a boomer, always a boomer. I think we got francesca recharged at our mini-boomer reunion a local izakaya on some familiar foods of her Far East sojourns but another three days of single-handedly manning their Flower and Garden Show booth (while DH does the store and kids and teaches night classes) will make all this year's ultras seem like a break. sorry to miss you robert at our boomer reunion. when ya comin' back from the second largest state in the union? thanks francesca and enki goddesses and divechief (on his way north to go skiing with the northern ultra goddess, . . . <>not jealous, not jealous)>>>. have fun. see you in Yakima on 4/4, . . . hope you still remember how. Big grin me too timbo as focusing on the ultra-boomer goddesses in recent years, . . . I mean ultra-mary's has dropped me from up to five tri's-a-year back to the one-a-year I've maintained since 1978.
